also, not your responsibility

Imagine!
How many other emergencies and people he must have walled off to do so.

I don’t consider myself a particularly good friend. Or, without sounding self-critizising because it is a conscious choice and not a personal flaw;
I know I’m not what most people look for in a friendship.
Let’s put it like that.

Because my friendship does not include in-between communication nor any emotional labor or support unless you are specifically asking for it.
But if you ask for it?
Then I clear my schedule and we’re actually going to SOLVE the problem.
Not the emotions or feelings, but we’re going to setup whatever is required for you to tackle this.

“But” to me friendship means you make an effort to show up in good spirits, to ask for consent if you have to or want to change plans or have a proposal.
Friendship is giving each other a lot of space, and to choose your topics of conversation with care.
Whether you’re laughing together or going for depth, it’s the quality that matters.

So obviously I gave this a lot of thought, and yes, it came with sacrifices but I didn’t realize until recently that it was not so much my friendship style where I was being perhaps overly picky and fussy;
It is everything.

That concentrating on the goals you want to achieve, or like I do in my case on creating ample time to write and be creative in other ways, means you have to know precisely what is going to be on your plate.
And what isn’t.

For many people being available for their loved ones to offer ongoing support and connection, or to respond happily when an invitation comes to hang out NOW immediately, is not a problem at all.
But the spice of life.

So no judgement.

But choose.

What is so important to you, that it’s allowed to take over your life?

The very thing you’re actually here for.

And let it be a private matter.

Select your divine objects, build the myths, map out the regiment for this sanctuary.
What are its daily practices of wholeness and holiness?

What are the rules upon entering, and how are they enforced?

There is a housing crisis in The Netherlands. Like most crises it was off course manmade. Had they continued to build at the rate it was done up until 1990, and (this is where it gets hypothetical) resisted the temptation to sell real estate from public housing associations;
None of this would have happened.

Supposedly, the rise of the number of households was predicted wrongly.
But since predicting it correctly would have involved the government spending more money, instead of saving it like a wrong prediction would, I doubt it was a case of getting the numbers wrong.
And I recently read they were instantly, and in no uncertain terms, warned against the dire consequences of cutting back on building new houses, in the early 90s.
But I cannot find that link so I will just leave it at it being my own not-fact checked belief.

But it is my own not-fact checked belief our current housing shortage is a direct long term consequence of short-term thinking, and more importantly short-term cashing, dating as far back as the early 90s, and continuing to this day.

However, regardless of whose fault it is, it is a fact that a lot of people are living together who do not want to.
Couples who want to get divorced, cannot even get separated.
Students still living with their parents instead of with other students, like was the custom up until the 90s.
Young professionals still living with their parents, and young couples not being able to start their lives together.

Not to mention families who are in need of bigger homes, in order to create privacy and a livable situation where the children have a quiet room for their homework.

And so on, and so forth.

I just saw a movie about the 1930’s, which were the crisis years here, as they were in many parts of the world.
I think the word is individuation; The ability to become your own person.
You need space for that.

In a society with great shortages, people will have a hard time negotiating even the most basic boundaries, let alone feel they have space to grow.
Or, as the title suggest, to build their own church. Even if I just intended that in a metaphorical sense.

And even if we do end up on the right side of the housing shortage, or whatever crisis our country is battling, even then;
Are you actually and actively executing and enforcing who you TRULY are?!
Are you the embodiment of your TRUE values?!

And if, coming back to the title of this blogpost, you are the embodiment of somebody else’s church, somebody else’s values?
I have good news for you;
This works too.
There is no necessity to make up your own church or your own scriptures.

But the problem is, most of us have NONE!
No rulebook or concept about what our set of guiding principles actually are.
And even when we do, wouldn’t you agree we still spend way too much time taking in other people’s opinion and considering angles to problems that are for sure, not authentically ours?

We still waste time and spread ourselves thin, because we have not conceptualized it to a point where an official religion would have effortlessly guided us through.
We’re coasting, flaking, failing and at best Forest Gumping our way forward,  where religion would have us aim HIGHER.
And have given us grid.

You know I’m telling the truth here.

So we know this is not about you and me joining some church, although that is totally fine too.
But this is about taking our own life seriously.

This is about an understanding that any scripture, playbook, set of values, or any daily practice and returning ritual;
That those are when we focus our attention, create intention, infuse awareness, and that will bring it ALL to life.

The understanding that if we would be as committed as religious people;
We’d be crushing it.

So go and crush it.

Build the church that was yours to build, to live the Life that was yours to live.

Amen.

If you think you would benefit from a broader approach, my suggestion will be to sort your story into:

1. the earthly plane
Your possessions, worldly matters, income streams, worries and responsibilities you fear you can’t meet.
A helpful term could be how do things look from the perspective of financial freedom, or worldly freedom.

2. your purpose
What is the work you love doing, what are the moments big or small, that you know you are aligned. Has God told you, what you’re here for?
This is about creative freedom, or even karmic freedom.
Are you free to do the work, that is yours?

3. your Rock Star expansion
What is the fullest expression you are here to bring?
And what are the areas you’re playing small, as if cut off from your powers?
We investigate if in those areas, the rules you play by are yours, or society’s.
“3” is related to sexual freedom.
Like anything, it is up to you if that is part of our conversation or not.

Because all three points are just a suggestion, they offer a good framework providing one hour for every topic, to go deeper looking for answers.
But the setlist is not fixed.

I have merely built the stage for us, and we have three hours.

It is up for you to take it.

There is a deep level of truth within you, that when betrayed arises as awareness no longer being present.
Immediately.

Not being aware, equals the deepest betrayal of Self.

Find her.

One of the reasons I feel it is adamant for me, to work as an independent, and in an unregulated profession, is that I would have no idea how to keep my integrity if I had to work in a payroll job.
Nor the patience of having my peers telling me how to do my job.

Not because they (an employer or a trade union) are out of integrity;
But because communicating and verbalizing what integrity is, is a maze that should have come with a map, signposts, and been preceded by a fundamental discussion on the rules, meaning Values, we are agreeing on, how they are ranked, and on the goals and the vision we have for our profession.
Where does the maze lead.

Which even if we would agree on the outcome of that – or if I was informed on the set of Values the organization has and I willingly submitted to them-  would still not cover for the gut feeling of Right or Wrong.
Nor would it make for an exclusive interpretation on their execution.

The first thing regimes that have ruled in dictatorship do, is to change the law, so that what they do is on paper right.
So now if you have a gut feeling it is not right (you feel they are out of integrity), you no longer have the law on your side.

You could even state that when you are in a situation where it is required that you verbalize how something is against your integrity, you’re already on your way out.
Because the other person is simply no longer going to listen, as soon as you tell them that what is asked or is being done goes against your integrity.

They will want to get rid of that feeling they’re doing something wrong, and since they were doing fine until you brought it up, the solution is simple;
You need to apologize, or you need to go.

So although our stomach will churn, our heart will skip a beat, and the breath will be taken away from us as soon as something is out of integrity.
Although the shock that apparently you are among people who have lost the ability to identify, or to stand up to, the evilness and the festering toxicity of the situation, spreads deep into our bones like cold fire;
And although we are lost for words, right now, when we need access to the most diplomatic, neutral set of them.

We must stay in integrity.

ABOUT THE LOST POST SERIES

I have been consistently posting “What Do Rock Stars Need To Hear Today” for a while now.
Starting June 2023, they found their final form as blogposts here on the Catacombe blog, pretty quickly.

But I’ve always been aware there were singular posts/ borderline poetry, still on social media, floating somewhere down my timeline.

Some at the beginning when I did not know what this series would be.
Some around the time in October/November 2023, when I lost access to this site.
And then a few in between.

And additionally to that, there are the ones I did post on the blog, but whose stories revolve around things I no longer offer.
I will retrieve those too;
And give them a new story, that has the timeless quality they deserve.
