your persona is a necessity

And for more reasons than one, and none of them because your ego needs pampering.

The world has changed, and far, far more than we can currently comprehend.

But we can no longer walk around barefoot.

The past five months, my work has absolutely flatlined. The moment I started a Dutch yoga company called “De Club“, which meant I had to set-up both a local yoga business again, as well as create content for my Dutch YouTube channel, where I would run the same program as in my classes;
Nothing, got done.

And because in many other areas of life, October 2023 to February 2024 have been five drama-filled months, it took me a while to realize that the reason of the flatlining was a different one.
That even though after a hiatus of being a yoga professional, I had obviously given this whole idea of starting teaching yoga again a lot of thought;
It had not been enough.

I had never been blocking because of circumstances, the blueprint of my new yoga work was simply incomplete (at best).
The design had not been completely thought through, and it had been the circumstances, which had prevented me from muscling through.

A blessing in disguise.

Because even though the series and the classes had already begun, and I have felt bad about not promoting them and about not creating new content for this series which was supposed to have weekly videos (or I did create it, and then threw the videos away);
It would have been worse if I had been able to sustain it.

If after six months of creating content, and promoting my classes promising a certain thing- I was then brought to a halt because of things happening in my life, and then put in reverse because I no longer felt a click to the work I was offering.

At least now, the damage is minimal.

The short version of what happened is that I was too focused on the yoga  itself, both in my videos as well as what I thought my classes would be about-
That I had overlooked the world has changed so much, the real work lies  in there.

In changing the world.

In teaching “yoga practitioners” at a very early stage, ages before they will even think about starting yoga, how to create a LIFE, that can actually hold yoga.

Similarly to me needing to focus on creating a LIFE, that can actually hold making yoga videos and running local classes.

I call it teapot and tea;
If we don’t have a teapot (our life does not have structure), then we cannot hold tea (a yoga practice).
Learning yoga, or making plans to do yoga, will not be effective until we have a structure it can go into.

Just like a plan to make yoga videos and to build new local yoga classes is futile, as long as I do not have the life structure in place that will hold this.

I even created a new international platform, Club Local Yoga, to do this work for the world, because the way I see it, we’re all in it.
No one, has escaped their world and reality having been altered to one that can no longer hold yoga, or any of the things we used to take for granted.

The teapots of our lives, are broken.

The way I see it, smartphones and internet have been hacking our brains, compromising our sense of time and affecting our ability to focus on our body. To focus on the now.

Internet and smartphones have doubled our realities, and multiplied problems of keeping our thoughts coherent and on things that matter.
Every click brings a new algorithm fighting for our attention.

There is too much to talk about, and this blogpost has already surpassed the level of being a quick message for Rock Stars.
But let me illustrate it with this;

Where having a “Rock Star persona” in the 20th century was something you only needed if you wanted to become a Rock Star, whether in music or in a different field, a different career;
In the 21st century, having Rock Star boundaries, focus, boldness, and faith in yourself, is a prerequisite.

Fifty years from now they will look back at the tens (2010-2019) as the time we all disappeared into our phones. Where most of us drowned, in the flood of media. Where we no longer had free will, but were ruled by the noise of the world.

My guess is in the late 30s, we will see a broader movement on the liberation of people from their phones and other media.
Leading to a time when we know how to balance the online with the offline.
To create a teapot that can hold both a smartphone as well as yoga, and other things we value.

But until then, it’s going to require Rock Star strength for you to be successful IN the world, which will largely require your online presence too;
And at the same time to be offline, and train and preserve the concentration and PRESENCE, that is an incremental part of your skillset.

It will require every inch of your Rock Star personality, and for extensive periods of time, to keep your teapot whole, your integrity intact, and the foundation of your life in place.
So you can build a life.

And the blink of an eye, to see it burned to the ground.

Because all three points are just a suggestion, they offer a good framework providing one hour for every topic, to go deeper looking for answers.
But the setlist is not fixed.

I have merely built the stage for us, and we have three hours.

And that is where it comes from still.

What is available for you, has already made itself known.

A few years ago, I started a website for my non-rock related pieces.
Which was something I never expected to need, because I have an alterego where I can discuss all the movie-related, artistic, and meta topics I want!
Had it for over 15 years.

An entire identity, fully separate from being Suzanne Beenackers, the Rock Star Writer from Nijmegen The Netherlands (who did not come into being until 2019, when I started the Rock Star Writer website)

So why on earth, would I need a new English blog for my deepest thoughts, about the nature of art, the source of our calling;
And about the nature of time, space and how we can be in it, in a creative way?

Instead of resorting to our day-to-day grind which suffocates and dumbs down the complexity of not just the nature of reality, but our very humanness….

Couldn’t I just keep the complex stuff “over there”, with my alter-ego, and allow for my work under my real name to be limited to the rock star topics, the yoga topics, and a Dutch blog which main purpose was to keep me connected to the world I am actually living in?

Could I for once, ignore the meta, far-and-beyond level of Life, if not to not burden my readers then to not mess up my status as a professional?

Apparently;
No.

And for the first year or so, the blog which I thought was going to be just a little something extra, brought forth my most profound work under my real name.
And it was even so good, that I nicked some of them, to publish in a book under my secret alter-ego.

It was obvious that even if it was for no one else, I, personally, needed this website to keep myself connected to this world behind the veil.
And to do it under the name of Suzanne Beenackers.

The website I started was called World between Worlds, and although the  final post is from 18 months ago (and a project I dropped after one post);
The older work is consistent and profound.

When I recently had to extend the subscription to keep the url/domain up , -an annual event that is bound to spark feelings of “do I really need this”!- I did so understanding that the answer was, and would always be:
“Yes”.

Because regardless of how you call it, God, Source, The Universe, or prefer to think in terms of the quantum and parallel realities like “World between Worlds”, like I did;
Every artist, and that includes any alter-ego you create, needs access to it.

Because we are not the creators in this world;
We are only its voice, we are its hands, we are the ones who transfer the world of the metaphysical into the physical.

Whether we were chosen or appointed ourselves, or never bothered to think about how we ended up becoming what others perceive as the creators of this world;
We are only, ever, to bring forth what already lay beyond.

Nothing, ever, needs creating.
Not by us, anyway.

ABOUT THE LOST POST SERIES

I have been consistently posting “What Do Rock Stars Need To Hear Today” for a while now.
Starting June 2023, they found their final form as blogposts here on the Catacombe blog, pretty quickly.

But I’ve always been aware there were singular posts/ borderline poetry, still on social media, floating somewhere down my timeline.

Some at the beginning when I did not know what this series would be.
Some around the time in October/November 2023, when I lost access to this site.
And then a few in between.

And additionally to that, there are the ones I did post on the blog, but whose stories revolve around things I no longer offer.
I will retrieve those too;
And give them a new story, that has the timeless quality they deserve.

face whatever haunts you

Not because of fears vanishing as soon as you shine the light on them.
And not even because you grow from challenging your demons.

And there could even be a bigger foe, suddenly awakened, now that the middle man has been taken out.

But this game of life belongs to you.
It is your job, to know what’s going on and who’s on the board.

It is ironic that I mistook the picture I used for a cloaked figure, like a monk or a Nazgul Ring Lord from Lord of the Rings.
Until I clicked the description and it said:
“A silhouette of a wolf howling on a mountain top”
And then I recognized the wolf.

That is how easy it is to mistake an adversary or a more abstract concept of a life challenge, for something else.
Is it what you think it is?
And do you think it is subject to what your mind believes it to be?
How far does the rabbit hole go of you actually creating your reality?

So come closer, take a better look. Study, whatever is worth avoiding, or what you assume will need great effort overcoming.
Familiarize yourself with it.
Ring Lord, howling wolf, or others for whom you have long changed your path.

What would happen if from now on, you stuck to the path that leads to where you want to go?
And trust that you were capable of meeting anyone, or anything, on it.

You may even find a friend.

There is a deep level of truth within you, that when betrayed arises as awareness no longer being present.
Immediately.

Not being aware, equals the deepest betrayal of Self.

Find her.

One of the reasons I feel it is adamant for me, to work as an independent, and in an unregulated profession, is that I would have no idea how to keep my integrity if I had to work in a payroll job.
Nor the patience of having my peers telling me how to do my job.

Not because they (an employer or a trade union) are out of integrity;
But because communicating and verbalizing what integrity is, is a maze that should have come with a map, signposts, and been preceded by a fundamental discussion on the rules, meaning Values, we are agreeing on, how they are ranked, and on the goals and the vision we have for our profession.
Where does the maze lead.

Which even if we would agree on the outcome of that – or if I was informed on the set of Values the organization has and I willingly submitted to them-  would still not cover for the gut feeling of Right or Wrong.
Nor would it make for an exclusive interpretation on their execution.

The first thing regimes that have ruled in dictatorship do, is to change the law, so that what they do is on paper right.
So now if you have a gut feeling it is not right (you feel they are out of integrity), you no longer have the law on your side.

You could even state that when you are in a situation where it is required that you verbalize how something is against your integrity, you’re already on your way out.
Because the other person is simply no longer going to listen, as soon as you tell them that what is asked or is being done goes against your integrity.

They will want to get rid of that feeling they’re doing something wrong, and since they were doing fine until you brought it up, the solution is simple;
You need to apologize, or you need to go.

So although our stomach will churn, our heart will skip a beat, and the breath will be taken away from us as soon as something is out of integrity.
Although the shock that apparently you are among people who have lost the ability to identify, or to stand up to, the evilness and the festering toxicity of the situation, spreads deep into our bones like cold fire;
And although we are lost for words, right now, when we need access to the most diplomatic, neutral set of them.

We must stay in integrity.

only you know where your heart lies

It is no small feat, to feel passion;
The unstoppable current that overflows all reason.
That in fact, overflows all that is NOT meant for you.

This power was given to you, and not to ignore it.
But to let it lead the way.

Valentine’s Day is a good one, isn’t it?
To share with you the power, not of undying love but of temporary passion that does not possess the unconditional characteristics as Love capital L does.
Or unconditional characteristics it should have, anyway.

Because Love should never be conditional.
With my recent breakup from my Lover (not partner!), at first I saw the fact that I still love him, and feel myself attached and bound to him -in the most visceral way- as a hindrance.
Something childish even, and definitely not a good strategy to make sure my post-50 life will have the same sexual zest, as it has had for as long as I can remember.

Judging from what I see around me, the second half seems to be dominated by stories of settling, tales of lack, and lessons of first making dating and finding a new partner the center of your very Universe and agenda, before maybe, you find someone to have a relationship with.

All things I refuse to settle for as being my story.

I’ve always had a strong sexual identity, and from when I was about 13 years old, I have fallen in love with boys and movie stars, rock stars and one tv personality.
My “practice” was being a romantic, much more than it was being sexually active.

Now that I am over 50, and I have to re-establish my sex life, still being attached to my former lover, AND ALSO refusing to settle, and refusing to invest time and money in dating, this feels like the most risky, borderline stupid thing to do at this point.

Romantic love, regardless of your age, does not fall out of the sky.
And if you’re aiming at pure passion, bypassing more subdued relationship forms, then staying emotionally attached to the lover you had, is not wise.

And yet?
Yes it is.
It is, if at the same time I can accept and even celebrate that he has moved on, and is creating his dreamlife.
Even if it is without me.

So there you have the two forces that are given to you.
TWO forces we more often than not dismiss, ignore, or talk ourselves out of:

1.the force of unconditional love

The Love, capital L, that you can still feel for someone even when they don’t “choose” you. That you can bask in the feeling of being happy for them, without needing anything back.

Never, ever, ignore a love that you can experience in this way.
And alternatively:
Never invest in any love, that requires you to get something out of it.
The only love that exists is unconditional Love. Capital L.

2.the force of passion

I define passion as a deep desire to be with someone or something, as well. For example I have a passion for Bon Jovi, so I want to listen to their concert bootlegs and write about them.
Which is also linked to my relationship with other people who like Bon Jovi. Internet allows me to share my love for Bon Jovi, which is how it multiplies.

But passion of course also refers to a physical, sexual longing. 
This too, in my opinion, was not given to you to ignore.

It’s not meant to be ignored when TWO people, feel this sexual longing for each other at exactly the same time!
I know I am ignoring an array of social taboos and financial and other pragmatic co-dependencies here–
but within the endless conversations about painful sexual experiences, non-consensual sex, and about unwanted celibacy and the tragedy of so many people not being able to enjoy sexually satisfying lives;
How can two people being head over heels in love and wanting to jump onto each other possibly be a bad thing?

How can we ever hope to say No to unhealthy relationships, to things that suck our soul out of us;
“No”, to situations that kill our personal growth and mutilate our identity;
When we do not know what Yes, means?

Never ignore things, interests, or people, that you feel passionate about.
Always respect the Yes of your heart!
As well as the Yes from the powers a bit further South.

Regardless of how much gets stirred up;
Never ignore things, interests, or people, you can give your unconditional Love to, or that you feel passionate about.

Wednesday 14th is your springboard | What Do Rock Stars Need To Hear Today 2024 02 11

Wednesday 14th is your springboard

And not because it’s Valentine’s Day, although that is certainly a memorable coincidence.

But it is Ash Wednesday, the start of the Catholic Lenten Season, a period covering 6.5 weeks, ending with Easter.

If you are not a practicing Catholic, you can still use this for fasting from sugar or alcohol, or assign it as the start of something that is meaningful for you.

From practicing an instrument, learning a new skill, or, which is my personal favorite;
Using it as a springboard for a whole new lifestyle.
A new era.

The only time I consciously started Lent, to a degree I have not managed to “achieve” since, was in 2007 when I used it as a springboard to reinvent my whole style of intimate relationships.

This was not a 6 week quest, rather it was the start of a path I did not know how long it would be, nor where it would lead.
It is a path I am still on, but only because I have been extending my stay here.

I’ve known the gist of who I am in intimate relationships since 2015, when in hindsight, my transformation was completed.
But it was not until January this year, that I have understood its weight.
Understood it will continue to need reaffirming, and needs to be handled with care.

17 years after I started that quest, and still the result is not something that will automatically drop into place, or can be taken for granted.
However, with this last month of a deeper understanding, that quest has indeed come to an end.

This year I am using Lent as a springboard for an even bigger quest;
My desire to live an 80s lifestyle.

Starting with limiting my interactive online time to the absolute bare minimum, which is to share my professional and creative work, and to sustain and develop relationships which cannot take another, real-life form.

But to stop using internet, including social media and news sites, as a pacifier.

I want to live in the late 80s, I want that slow, peaceful mindset.
Get bored sometimes, although I cannot remember ever being bored in the 20th century.
But a girl can dream.

Living offline, growing your career, going without sugar or alcohol;
What springboard is Lent going to be for you, this year?

I have been consistent posting “What Do Rock Stars Need To Hear Today” for a while now.
Starting in June 2023, they found their final form as blogposts here on the Catacombe blog pretty quickly.

But I was always aware there were singular posts/ borderline poetry, still on social media, single posts floating in space and time, somewhere down my timeline.

Some at the beginning when I did not know what this series would be.
Some around the time in October/November, when I lost access to this site.
And then a few in between.

Today was the day when I decided to go look for them, knowing that I would probably have to rewrite the stories, making them timeless.
Some had been tied to my current offer at the time, things I no longer offer, and I wanted to carve out what I could still use from the text or write an entirely new text supplementing the few lines at the top (the actual message)

So here I was, all geared up to find the first post, cut it out, paste it and write a whole new story with it!
*insert muscle arm emoji*

And then the first of all the posts was the above one;
“Take the day off”

And all forceful effort just melted away.

Your highest work came to you, it was  planned for you and brought to you, as well as coded into you, to ensure you would recognize it, in the 3D world.

Throwing yourself in it, without  ever knowing why.

In December 2016, I encountered a business coach on the internet who totally changed the game for me.
And that was after already feeling blessed that I, as a Dutch yoga teacher, had come into contact with online business coaching, escaping what felt like a Bermuda triangle in modern entrepreneurship the size of the Dutch yoga industry, but it seemed more like the size of my entire country.

To this day I believe there is something about Dutch culture that actively suppresses visibility, confidence, ownership, and ambition;
All traits that would come in handy as an independent operating on the consumer market.
Which is what being a yoga teacher is, if you want teaching yoga to be your income and not a hobby.

And in my opinion these bold traits are also required to be a successful service-provider in the public sector and business-to-business as well, but let’s stick to my own turf.

Anyway, through sheer luck, or because of the familiarity of business management and marketing because of my studies, or because God or The Universe had encoded marketing into my blueprint so I was able to recognize my calling and simply devour it, I remember studying modern online marketing from 2008 on upward.
However this is historically very unlikely, because internet marketing as such did not even exist at that point.

But it does illustrate that I cannot remember a time without studying it.
And in December 2016, Marketing “done right” because I definitely never felt this intense love for it at university (in hindsight it is shocking they managed to make marketing boring, to be honest), had already been my professional passion for years, when I encountered this business coach who to this day has changed the game for me.

This life-changing coach I encountered in December 2016, is Katrina Ruth.

I no longer follow her work since it became (fully) Faith-led and for a Christian audience and clients, but that will never change the fact that after my parents she is the person who has had the biggest influence on who I am today.
And I still study the courses I bought from her.

One of my biggest regrets is that even after capping her material after 2022, I will never live long enough to study all the books, courses and YouTube content, she has created.

Fast forward to February 2024, and I am stepping into my message for other yoga teachers here in the Netherlands.
Yoga teachers who are living in a country that actively opposes active entrepreneurship for independents, in an industry that struggles to adapt to the modern age where yoga has become free through YouTube.
I have a message for them, about their tremendous value and also, yes, how  they can monetize that. In full integrity.

But what I have encountered so far, is that there is so much resistance rooted in the idea that they would have to learn something.
That “marketing” and selling and being a modern yoga teacher would require a whole new set of skills and priorities.
Not true.

Probably because of my background in business, I lost myself in business coaching.
But other yoga teachers in the Netherlands have encountered their own things between 2008 and December 2016.
They had their own passions which they dug into between December 2016 and capping it at late 2022, when they peacefully parted with it.

And if you are not a yoga teacher in The Netherlands, you had something too!
Your attention was caught and education, in whatever shape or form it needed to have to give you pleasure, was provided.

It was effortless, it was fun, and the only thing you regretted was that you would never have enough time to learn, experience, capture and live through, everything.
That you will die unsatisfied, knowing there was almost more, and you’d always be hungry for more.

The reason you never need to learn something is because the education you need to bring your highest work;
Was already provided.

your confusion is created by the normal of others

You know something is off before anybody else does.
If you’re underachieving, when you’re on the wrong path, or whether diabolical powers are leading you astray.

Do not wait for others to affirm your reality.
Get it fixed.

For the past couple of weeks, I have had a big shift happening in my personal life, that really hooked into my identity.
It was tied to who I thought I was, what my mission was, my priorities.
It was the most tangible accomplishment I had from a mission I had set out on at Ash Wednesday 2007.
So that’s a long time.

And it was tempting to fall into thoughts of that it had all been for nothing, led to nothing, and other fatalistic conclusions about how I had chosen spent my life these past 17 years.

The other big thing that shook me this month, was also rooted in an event in the past.

In 2013-ish I sought help for something medical, which I dropped the moment I realized how much stress the exam was going to give me.
Only to pick it up this month, after years of having been sent away with complaints that in hindsight, were related to 2013.
They were never separate, superficial, normal things, due to aging.

Over the course of years, similarly to 2013, these new things had been treated both by me as well as the professionals, as things that had a binary cause of A. something life-threatening where time was of the greatest import, or B. something completely innocent that was totally normal for my age.
And we usually went for B.
Or after a brief exam for A, then B.

When in fact it was C:
Something slow moving or even stable, and that I failed to get diagnosed in 2013 because I bailed out.

C: Something in all probability benign (since it’s obviously slow moving) yet that can and is, still very much affecting me partially because I/we didn’t know what to lookout for.
We didn’t know what to expect.

Maybe in 2013, it could even have been treated and I could have been cured.

So, what do these two seemingly unrelated things, of my 2007 quest and the “result” going up in thin air, and a medical exam I called off in 2013 and the consequences I have suffered because of it, have to do with each other? 

They both revolve around a sense of normalcy and internalization.

Because the truth was, this quest of mine on Ash Wednesday 2007?
It was done the moment I decided to undertake it.
The identity-defining aspect to myself I occasionally panic about that I lost it?
That was never the identity-defining part at all, nor was it the result of a quest gone right.

By undertaking the quest, my sense of normal had changed, my sense of who I was had changed.
That cannot be acquired by external things happening, nor can it be taken away.

The medical advice I sought in 2013 did not have such a moment where I owned both what MY NORMAL had been, until 2013;
Nor did I OWN the knowledge something was off.

Although I was an active participant in the quest, and felt more a passive and not particularly compelled consumer with regard to the medical path, the result was the same;
I was looking for outward validation for something that was an internally felt thing.

The quest was never meant to lead to HAVING certain viable things or results;
It was about BEING a totally different person.

The medical journey should never have been about GAINING certain viable things or results;
It should have been an acknowledgement that something was completely off and NOT NORMAL, for me!
I had changed.
The shock I was in, resulting in a rushed jump onto the medical treadmill, was  set out to see if something medically threatening was wrong with me, when I was aiming on getting my old self back, my sense of normal.

Other people’s opinion or interest, or any form of external and material validation (or lack thereof) are not a part of who we are.
This means two things.

Only you know when you are NOT, on your path, NOT living your normal;
Only you know when things have shifted for the worse.
From 2013 and up, I should have owned that the string of things I sought medical attention for was absolutely not normal FOR ME, and should have dismissed all reassurance that it was normal or fine.

But it also means that once you are ON path, like the one I stepped on in 2007;
It’s done.
There is nothing more to say or to do.

This, is now your new normal.

Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

lay the smallest brick or something bigger

It was gonna say “lay the smallest visible brick” until I realized that this suggested the foundational structure would end up missing!
In whatever it is we are building.

But do you know what the smallest visible bricks build?
Relationships.

That’s your structure right there.

If there was one business lesson I could tell my younger self, it’s that a sustainable business is relational, not transactional.
It’s not: You buy something from me, and in exchange you give me money.

It’s also not: We have a relationship because you buy from me.

It’s:
We have a relationship, and there are times when we choose to fill that in with you buying something from me.

And personally, the more sale-sey the post, the more I like reading it from someone else.
It excites me, to see or read someone being enthusiastic about what it is they sell.
And I also like reading their stories, providing there is a call-to-action at the end of how I can work with them.

Unpopular opinion, I know.
But it is why you will never see me writing a blogpost, without a what I sell at the bottom.

So!
When I say “lay the smallest brick”, which means to build a little bit on your business or career, I do not mean invisible things such as writing something in your notebook, or doing anything invisible or behind the scenes.
I also do not mean approaching one potential client.
Not if you’re pressed for time- then I do not want you to choose that.

I mean:
What is the smallest brick, the smallest public post on your social media, that you can identify for yourself?
This is your “MDR”, minimal daily requirement.

This is what you can commit to, so that the people who follow you know who you are and preferably- but you don’t have to if you can’t or won’t-
preferably they are reminded of, or informed about, what you’re selling that day.
