Repeating this word 3x is a wink to the new Beetlejuice movie, currently in cinemas.

But I don’t think these entities particularly respond to being called out by how they are named.

It’s worse;
Google them, and you’ll probably recognize you’ve felt their presence.
They do not require summoning at all.

Right of the bat, I’m going to admit I’m sharing something with you that I am not particularly knowledgeable about.
Yet when I encountered this concept, which was just a sidenote in someone’s talk, I immediately followed its trail.
With my fascination for the unexplained, I immediately understood that whatever that video or that teacher (who was new to me) could have told me, would no longer be holding up, compared to this.

That learning “Egregore” had been the reason their videos had crossed my path.
Not whatever it was they had to share.

And although when I dived into it, I was disappointed by the multitude of interpretations on what an Egregore actually was, and denounced the lack of consistency, that is of course to be expected when dealing with the beyond.

In particular when it has roots thousands of years old.

In ancient texts, Egregores are synonymous to The Watchers, and found under both of these names in a book which was removed from Christianity;
The Book of Enoch.
It dates to appr. 200BC and was part of canon for hundreds of years until it was basically what we would now call “cancelled”!
1500 years before that word even existed.

In The Book of Enoch, the Egregores/ Watchers can be both good (angels) or bad (fallen angels).

But in the 20th century and in ours, Egregores also started to become known as ideas, a collective consciousness, and even entities, that came into being from congregations of followers of those ideas.
And this can be an intentional congregation, like a church or events such as rock and pop concerts.
But these thought forms are largely formed unintentionally!

Through social media, and views expressed through news websites that color our understanding of it.

The modern interpretation of what an Egregore is, can be compared to what is known in psychology as mass formation or crowd formation, where the individual thoughts are replaced with collective ones.

This phenomenon got more well-known during the Covid pandemic, where indeed on both sides of the spectrum (both the conspiracy theorists as well as those in favor of government regulation; two sides both with blindspots the size of an Egregore!) seemed to be operating both outside of the paradigms of logic, as well as opposite to the values you would expect to be underpinning that logic.

The viewpoints were irregular, compared to everything that had come before.

Both sides were so deeply emotional, and required social situations to be free from any attempt to really poke your finger in the loopholes, that now looking back I find the word Egregore, as in its most modern day interpretation, particularly useful in describing what the f happened in 2020-2021:

For the first time in my life, I witnessed Independent Entities being created,
by large groups of people giving their consciousness to ideas which were not their own.
Once these monsters, these Egregores, had taken shape, they were so powerful because they were still attached to the people that birthed them.
They were manifested consciousness.

I remember so vividly the day the final regulations in The Netherlands were supposed to be lifted.
Friday 25th of February, 2022.
I wrote that down by heart, I did not look that up.

And I saw the date coming closer, and was skeptical because I thought:
“This is stronger than they are. This monster of fear cannot be deleted at will!”
I knew for a fact, that on the 25th of February 2022, nothing would change.

We’d have the same people being pro-vaxing, and pro-testing, and talking badly about conspiracy theorists, and of course on the other side of the spectrum nothing would change either, because they didn’t want anything to do with the regulations.

So the 25th came nearer and I was 100% sure I was right on this one.
The paper reality of the government, where they could just decree that we would now stop being afraid of Covid, would not change anything.

And then, guess what?
On Thursday the 24th, the war in Ukraine started.

An auspicious timing which definitely had the power to make a conspiracist out of everyone still on the fence after two years of pandemic!

But let’s not get into that. My point is of that course that everything had shifted on the 25th.
Like 95% of the people or something, who had been actively advocating or just neutral or leaning lightly towards the government;
We all snapped out of our pandemic nightmarish haze that had had its claws in us for two years, and we were awake.
To war.

So I had been wrong, because on the 25th everything had shifted after all!
But at the same time I had been right.

Because it had not been the paper decree of the government that had ended the two year thick cloud of fearful pandemic thinking.
A cloud I would now have called, a diabolical being, an entity called an Egregore.

It had been the war in Ukraine, that had our attention.
And from one moment to the next, the Egregore no longer had access to our consciousness.
And it died.

There are still people who are fearful of Covid and believe the government should have kept up protecting us from it, to this day.
But I do not believe they are feeding into an Egregore!
They are their own person, they make their own decisions, and have thought this through.
Even during the pandemic, you could recognize these what I would call “hardliners” as being quite different to the majority, who seem to defend government regulations out of social code or loyalty.
Yet you could sense with the last group their heart wasn’t really in it. Emotions, yes, but heart, no.
And it was not as thought through, as with the hardliners.

I definitely think that from the get go, the hardliners had a consciousness and an awareness that the masses, including me I would say, did not have.
I have felt sick with regard to the social processes going on around me, throughout the pandemic, but absolutely lacked the clarity about what was going on, and was unable to formulate my own standpoint on the matter.
I was not myself, and I do not believe I have made in any way a useful contribution to pretty much anything, those years.

Maybe because of my inability to act or form my own opinion – despite recognizing the extreme situation was the ideal moment for anyone calling themselves a writer or a thinker, to offer a thoughtful perspective on the matter-
That the years changed me forever.
And not in a way I would wish for anyone to be changed, but I will never be the same again. Sometimes I fear I have lost my humanity, and became a dark thoughtform myself.
(I have called her Dark Suzy, and technically she was already around in 2018, but that’s a story for another day!)

Okay!
Back to the Egregores, which clouded our judgement versus the “virus hardliners” who in my opinion, did have access to their own mind!
And still do.

Disclaimer:
I definitely don’t know enough about the other (non-conformist, or conspiracist) side of the pandemic spectrum, to say anything about the nuances there.
I have no idea where their Egregore begin, versus whom really came up with their own ideas, to which they will stand by.

But on the neutral/ pro-government/ Covid-is-a-real-danger side of it?
I feel informed enough to say that anyone who after the 24th of February 2022 was still actively standing by their Covid-informed viewpoint, has proved their ideas were sovereign.

And everyone who on that 25th of February 2022, felt a noticable shift, as if despite the coming of the new war, they felt like something dark and malicious had gone up in smoke?
Those were people like me, whose minds and/or whose lives, had been affected by what I would now call an Egregore.

On the 24th of February 2022 the Egregore died of starvation.
After having caused havoc, and having polarized our society causing deep wounds that will remain scars forever.

So maybe it is no coincidence at all, that the meaning of the word Egregore has changed over the centuries.
From the biblical interpretations, where they are spiritual beings or fallen angels, to the clean psychological perspective that they are not separate entities but simply a sociological phenomenon.

Maybe the collective-consciousness-driven, superpower Egregores, which we saw during the pandemic, really did not exist, until a few years ago.
Their existence linked to digital media.

But I invite you to think about what you witnessed during the pandemic, and make notes of what it is you saw.

The Egregores.

Regardless of their shape or form, regardless of your personal beliefs about where they come from;
In order to avoid falling prey to them, and losing control over your own mind;
And to understand the behavior of the people around you from as intimate as your own family or neighbors, to as big as a worldwide audience;
To familiarize yourself with at least the possibility, that there might be forces snatching away people’s mind, meaning that you will no longer be able to connect to them;

You have to know what you’re dealing with.

And you cannot take my word for it, nor anyone else’s.
You have to look into the mouth of the beast, and find out for yourself.

Egregore. Egregore. Egregore.

Is first of all an expression, full courtesy of Sixx: A.M., the band from Nikki Sixx.

But next to that?
Is also a pretty fuckin’ accurate description of what will happen.

If, you succeed.

—

Every time I listen to anything Nikki Sixx has ever created I am overwhelmed by the darkness, the grandness but also the magnetic beauty of it like a rose growing from the ashes.

There is so much emotion, rolled up in one that you can’t help but be drawn to it.
At least, I can’t.

Whether it are his photo books, where he photographs models who have bodies that look different than most of us.
Whether he narrates his own diary, to what has be the most epic audiobook ever created, The Heroin Diaries, including music written for the book.

Or whether you read the beautifully designed books by yourself;
You will find something captivating there, and something rare.

Nikki Sixx’ work is devoid of any corporate-ness, any lazy cashing in on previous successes.
It is alive, kicking, and bleeding, to this day.
Just like him.

But holy Christ, the pain through which Nikki Sixx has gone, and how close he needs to keep that to the surface in order be able to connect to it.
And through that;
To us.

The moment he starts pushing it away, and cements it over with a comfortable layer of some sort of emotional suppressant anyone with a history of substance and drug abuse would still allow themselves (shopping, eating, gambling)

That moment?
It’s gone.
His work will be devoid of emotion, it will become safe and soulless.

Yet his is the work of someone who keeps part of the wound open.

And here’s the kicker;
Next to his own pain he has faced the pain of the ones showing up in front of his lens, and at his signing table, where he would work past opening hours because he didn’t want to send anyone home who had been waiting in line to talk to him.

Some said they had been sober for years, thanks to reading the book.
Others were off the drugs for 48 hours.
And he opened his heart and talked to them all.

Exactly like I am asking of you.

If you do not want to become an artistic travesty.
If you, want to be that rare gem that comes up with something real, then rip the band aid and feel your god damn pain.
It’s the only way.

Let the art flow out and cleanse your wounds.

And welcome it when others bring their pain, which you triggered by your work and by who you are, and by creating whatever came out of that.

Immerse yourself in it, and learn to love it.
It is not THE way, no, far from it;
But it is yours.

you’re original material

Every beginning band knows they need to choose;
Either you play covers, giving you a great chance at being regularly booked and a shot at becoming professional.

Or you write your own songs and see chances marginalize, but stakes spiking!
If you win here, you win big.

And it works the same for you, but with one major difference;
You don’t have a choice.

—

Although widely known that it is difficult to make money from your art, a large part of why that is, is usually not included in the story.
Which is that there are systems, organizations, and ingrained social structures and beliefs, that surround run of the mill productivity and success.
And that are absent or limited, in art.

Within systems and organizations, there are still nuances of course.
Where certain job levels are exploited, and others require working up to 80 hours a week to get to.
But overal there is an understanding of the principles, the dynamics.
Parts of this system are referred to as a rat race, but at least with a race the track is known.

In these places there is a blueprint, a way to establish where you are. There are best practices and books written about how to survive or even thrive in this system.

When for creatives the path is not just less traveled, but to be cut through with a machete.
Because typically, there is no path.

So the big difference between living from your art, and choosing a profession linked to a system, or in a system, is that you have to learn to move forward without a roadmap.
Without knowing where you are, and in the worst case even not knowing where you are going.

Because the whole concept of knowing your endgame, is tied to the hierarchy as well, of course!

The more that is known, the more of the map is known, and the easier it gets.

Two questions to indicate if what you want (of vaguely have a concept about) is difficult or not:
Q1 Do you have any role models, in the vein of how you want to work?
For beginning bands this question can usually be easily answered!
They will have many idols and people who inspired them with their music.
But so many of us will be carrying our Rock Star soul around through industries where no one has ever done it in a creative way.
Or at least no one we know of.
When it comes to creativity and art, it helps if your dominant creative expression is in a field where others have gone before you.

But rock n roll itself, wasn’t invented until halfway 20th century.
Every established creative industry once had someone, usually more people, who started not just moving the needle, but painting it, hanging it upside down, knitting a Rock Star outfit for it, or whatever creative thing it is they do!

By definition, creative industries do not appear out of nowhere;
People gave their lives for this.

So if you do not have examples, and it has not been done before, know that is a place where many have stood before you.
It’s where all things begin.

And then:
Q2 Are there known paths to make money, that are more safe?

Again, illustrated by the choice beginning bands make;
Yes, there are multiple options for bands and musicians, such as playing in a Tribute or Coverband, or becoming a studio musician, or a music teacher.

The two questions are actually related;
If your creative expression does not have others to set a positive example, then the options you have of playing it safe, will also be further off from what you had in mind.
Or simply non-existent.

To illustrate:
Before rock n’ roll existed, Yes an “aspiring avant-la-lettre Rock Star” could become a music teacher, as an alternative to this urge to express something liberating and rebellious but not knowing what because of course there was little inspiration to draw from!-
But they’d have to teach classical music, because they could hardly become a teacher in something that had not been invented.

So whatever your dreams are – whatever the art or your creative reinterpretation of your craft or profession which no one has dared to mess around with before –
Know that you are, in the words of Brené Brown, braving the wilderness here.

There have been people who became rock stars and played in successful bands, who were thoroughly unhappy there.
In retrospect, they would have been better off choosing a lower profile job so that they could specialize without the disruptive powers of being in the limelight.

But those must have been few compared to the ones who settled for what promised to be safety, when they actually had Rock Star DNA that was not designed to be unleashed in confided spaces. At all.
When set off in front of 60.000 people, that power would not just have been expected and somewhat required, but completely safe as well.

There is a story about the first rock n’ roll musician, Robert Johnson. He is surrounded by myth, but what is not a myth is that he was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, in 1986.

Legend has it, he sold his soul to the devil in order to learn to play the electric guitar very well.

And although I do not recommend selling your soul to the devil, I do believe the story of Robert Johnson, the first rock n’ roll star, is a tale of initiation, and of understanding.
He knew what he wanted was beyond human skill to obtain.
He knew he wasn’t going to get there through earthly means, just setting one foot in front of the other.

He gave his soul, and to the devil no less, because his goal was that important to him.

It is the same power that resides in you.

What are you holding on to, that is definitely granted to the Plan B coverband studio musicians of this world, but that needs to be tossed into the flames of you finally accepting your bigger purpose?

The world needs more studio musicians, more cover bands, more wonderful professionals who are very good at what it is they do, and are beloved members of their communities, and valued deeply for the good they bring and everything they mean for the people around them.

But your fire was meant to light up the night’s sky.
Your name, to be catapulted forward into a future where none of us will be alive to hear it.

You were born to sustain the pressure of the limelight, of 60.000 people or the world watching every move.
You could handle knowing the devil is waiting for you.

Because what awaits you when you turn inside, the screaming of a calling unanswered, and creativity denied, is a thousand times more scarier, than facing whatever is outside.

You didn’t exactly come with options.

set your biggest (love) goals this weekend

The only purpose worthy of your life, is the one that generates the most love.

And not to receive love, because I do not believe that is what the adulated aspired for.

But where can you give the greatest love?

Or where can you divide your generous heart over many, perhaps millions, different souls.

Where can you give, the most.

It happened decades ago and although I didn’t integrate the memory immediately;
When I chose my own path, in 2006, I was quick to dig this one up from old agendas.

What had been that day, or more specifically, that night?
The one I knew I would have more time for now, to contemplate over.

My thoughts of other men, or remembering their presence, no longer came with the sense of guilt.
I was free now, to think of whomever I wanted and whenever I wanted.

And I found the memory back.
And although there was more engaging or more worthy evidence of our encounter, to me these simples dates at the end of August, would turn out as the one that stuck.

The 30th and 31st of August.
Year after year after year.

And for the longest time, I thought it had something to do with the promise of the new schoolyear (on the Northern Hemisphere).
Although regular schools usually started in August already, and it was only in academics where I cannot remember ever starting in August.

Throughout my youth summer holidays had always ended in August, yet September 1st started ingraining itself as a kind of done-for-you, actionable “January 1st”!
All you have to do is follow the lines, because someone already has a plan for you for the upcoming ten months.

So my sweet memories of that night blended with the calm and sturdy productivity of the year ahead.
No longer knowing which was which, and just enjoying the flow of moving into the new year.

Until today it suddenly hit me, what it had been about that night that had made it so special.
So memorable, that it was one of the first things I excavated from my past as soon as I became single.

And that it had actually been a night of deep love.

A night of feeling so unabashedly for another human being.
And with the other not just reciprocating, although he certainly did, but more than that, it was someone who could receive.

Someone who thought it was totally normal and logical, and appropriate that I liked being with him.
As underdeveloped our psychology was at the time, simply because there wasn’t much awareness about how to create a space, a relationship, between two people – in many ways 21st century ten year olds are more socially adept then him and me must have been then-
And yet, I believe there was a sense of We between us.

There was an incredible level of trust, and we felt that and shared things and built intimacy in a way that I would have a hard time recalling ever repeating that.

And certainly, not in that short a time.

It was a sea of love, trust and mutual adulation, all wrapped up into one night together.

And when I say dream your biggest dreams this weekend. Find your purpose. And let it be love.
Then yes, I know the aspects of our lives that we control are limited. Chance encounters cannot be planned. And you cannot build your next ten months assuming there will be any.

But what you can do is to let the stories of when you loved the most, when you were totally smitten, help you stand your ground in choosing your projects and priorities.

What are the topics, the people, the activities, where you are overflowing with love you have to share?

And to promise yourself, that you will start by “chasing” those. Choosing love. And that the only reason to abandon it is if a bigger love, suddenly comes your way.

Let the work that flows out of you, whatever it is that you do, serving others

Through your art, your ideas, your presence.

Let it come out whole, so that hundreds of years from now its soul is still there.

I’m reading an Anais Nin book.
It’s not one of her diaries, for which she became known in the 60s. Nor is it a collection of erotica, which were published shortly after her death although with her permission because she had been working on getting this oldest work of her released.

Instead it is a rare publication from the 70s, a collection of her lectures and transcripts of Q&A’s she hosted.
A Woman Speaks. I don’t think it ever got a reprint, which is a shame because it is astonishing how relevant it all still is.

2024 her work is helping me navigating the waters of digital writing.
Do I write for social media or do I aim for books like hers?
Books which are so fragile, because they are dependent on publishers who want to keep it in print.
They are not forever, the way digital publications are.

Although it is of course no strict line because a lot of what is in print is later on digitalized.

Anais Nin is said to have expressed a yearning for a way of communicating, that we would now call the internet.
It inspired the curator to publish a book called “A Café in Space”
Because her words had become so prophetic.

And by now, 2024, it seems like the words uttered in that café in space seem a lot more relevant, and sturdy, than the ones who have made it to print.
And I assume: More relevant than the books that are, current day, making it to print.

That going viral, in video of course, is automatically more relevant than what has gone through the painstaking process of being published into a book.

And yet holding that old book from the 70s, reading her words and letting this slow medium move me, decades after its release;
It stirred something in me.

In the timeless words of Carry Bradshaw;
I couldn’t help but wonder.

Shouldn’t we go back, allowing our work to get denser, slower, thicker, of more substance?
Not just writers, but any artist.

Shouldn’t we trade our Café in Space more often, for the work that fifty years from now, someone will find?
Being blown away, how much it matters.

What flows naturally, what came with a vision.
What followed you around when all else dropped away.

It is what will remain until the day you die.

All the rest, is entertainment.

The trickiest part about being called to do something, is that it appears surprisingly similar to people doing the same thing you think you should be doing.

The moves are the same, and there are unspoken as well as official rules, standards you never fathomed.
If you’re very unlucky there are diplomas and trainings expected to have or pursue.

But your gift doesn’t work that way.
In fact, if you insist on killing it – which is difficult but it can be done!- then your best bet is to formalize it, and start tailoring and kneading your vision and your natural talents and abilities;
To the smallminded worldly interpretation of it.

Watch!
How it sucks the soul straight out of it.

Until its lifeless remains have the exact same shape as what everything else thinks it should look like, but the urgency, the compelling pull, the spark of fascination and your natural willingness to be totally absorbed by it;
Are gone.

The thing that is yours to bring into this world, comes with its own soul and its own resources.
It does not answer to the laws of this world.

But doing it in an uptight, proper manner, aimed at winning respect and showing how professional you are;
Will leave you empty handed.

Not the sales, not the likes, not the clicks, not the buys.
No question mark, no dot dot dot, not even an exclamation mark.
The art.
Full stop.

It is a returning battle for all creators.

The diabolical temptation to not just turn what we create into content, and to therefor unintentionally judge our work based on fleeting value, like judging a Michelin starred restaurant on meeting McDonalds criteria of having your whole order ready within a few minutes;

But also the ultimate end of this sliding scale where we consider quitting altogether.
I mean, why would you, if you can also buy 366 days of done-for-you content on a shoestring budget?
Or repurpose from your old projects, clipping it into more reader- social media- friendly snippets?

Why would anyone go through the time consuming process of creating anything original, if we live in a capitalist world that doesn’t even recognize the difference between a text written by, and imagery created by, AI, versus the ones made by human artists?

And in particular if you’re “only” using your creativity for your marketing;
Why bother?!

Why not just post something that just takes minutes, because you cut it from things you already created?
Although anyone who has ever tried this, knows that it is virtually impossible to do this without spending another hour creating something new.
Consider it a good thing 😉
But my point is, why would you do that?

Why would you regurgitate something that was created on a day that was NOT today?

I mean if your creativity itself expresses through curating, through building collections, through creating the perfect Instagram feed;
If your highest joy is to create a perfectly orchestrated marketing campaign?

Sure!
Go ahead!

But if your uniqueness comes from this message, this rebellion, this radically different view of anything and everything, that you spent a lifetime coming up with and that is so deeply ingrained into you, it would by now be impossible to separate you two;
Then why would you?

Why would you repeat literally, what you created yesterday or yesteryear, when in a figurative sense, the message that will come out of you today, will be the same anyway?

Yes, you heard correctly.
Identical, the same, no different.

Because if your message is engrained into every cell of your being, it will be impossible for you to open your mouth or whatever way you express, and to come up with something “original”, as in something you have never done.
Your truth will be so deeply rooted, the same art will be created!

Over and over and over.

And there you go, that’s your art, that’s the thing you’re here to do.

To tell, speak, show, create and recreate, your deepest truth over and over and over and over.

Let the rest, rest.
Ignore it.
Let it be picked up by AI to be cleaned up and regurgitated into soulless dime a dozen content, that will probably receive more than the original.
Who cares.

Let your soul speak, let your heart speak, and never move back or lean back.

Be there, at the frontier, standing your ground.
Creating.

In the unlikely event you’re looking to add a bit more misery and pain to your life
Yearning, for an uptick in anxiety.
Unexplained fears lurking on the borders of your consciousness.

Divide your attention over as many things as possible, and change those things as often as you can.

But if you’re looking for the opposite?
Work in a fully engaged manner.

It was someone whom I held in high-regard, although their scatteredness had already struck me as being somewhat of an Achilles heel in their teachings.

That although of course professionals of all kinds have the same right to make a mess of their private lives;
With the ones whom associate themselves with giving life and lifestyle advice, spillovers into their work stand out more prominently.

If my heating mechanic has been on a bender the night before, I could not care less as long as he fixes my kettle.
But if it was my GP, I would need to contemplate what my thoughts are on this.
If I think it conflicts with the values and standards I want my GP to have, or if I think it would affect the quality of their work.

And I would look at it from different angles.
Because although it might be tempting to say a family doctor should never have a hangover, since a good part of their patients will be taking alcohol, having no part in that does influence their ability to relate to what’s normal.

However, again, if it was a mechanic and not a doctor, I would forget about the whole thing as soon as my central heating system was up and running again.

So the fact that this was a professional whom, much like a doctor, has something to say about health and lifestyle, did put them in the more challenging category.
The one we tend to be less forgiving, and raise the bar for.

What happened is that I saw their personal, in my opinion flawed, lifestyle not just spilling over into their work;
But actually being advocated.

So they were not just showing signs of it, they were promoting it.

And the thing that was being promoted was basically to do two things at the same time.
One for your body, and one for your mind.

I have seen it in different forms too, where instead of doing it exactly at the same time, you make them really really small.
So then instead of doing this thing, whatever it is, and give it the time it needs and deserves, you give it 5 minutes or 15 minutes.
Squeezing it all in.

Just as bad.

I’m not saying you should never do that, but that doing so should at least be a very conscious and preferably temporary choice.
Or with the intention that even though it is only 5 or 15 minutes, you will give it your full attention.
But that’s a conscious choice then, for short “atomic habits” style things.

But if you’re actually doing two things at the same time, giving it your full attention is an impossibility altogether.

And in my opinion nothing good can come of that.
Consciousness must always be in the moment, engagement must be full.
And preferably both of them are in the body.

So although being fully absorbed in your computer work (what is referred to by Cal Newport as Deep Work) is also more gratifying and can lead to feelings of wholeness and happiness, it’s still a hard landing afterwards.
Because there was no one “home” in your body for hours.

The best way of being completely in the human experience, is to have your attention with what is it you do, and that the activity has an active physical component.
Even if it is just standing up on your feet instead of sitting.

However!
This physical component needs to be tied to what it is you do.

A painter moves around in their studio.
But if they would setup their canvas or, more likely, their digital creation device, on top of a treadmill, the activity of walking has nothing to do with the work they are doing.

The analog painter walks around their studio in an organic way, it’s integral to their work.

So if you want to improve your life drastically, start with culling everything that is not whole, or that even interferes with the wholeness of other things that would have been whole if it wasn’t for:
-the scrolling
-the messaging
-the call
Or even: the 5 minute workout
In my experience if I interrupt my deep work at the computer to do exercises that are supposed to help me physically, it dramatically takes away my concentration.
And satisfaction.
The quality of my work plummets if I start cutting in, regardless if it is for Instagram or squats.

Beware, in this age where even the ones who you trust with your health advocate methods where your attention can no longer land, be, reside, wander;
Chill, play, stall, and laugh;
With the rest of you.

the vision is all that matters

Just like you can’t create human life piecing together limbs like Dr. Frankenstein;
A result, or lack thereof, does not come from its individual parts.

It all depends on what you had in mind before the very first action was taken.

There has been an area in my life which is such a disgrace, I wouldn’t even dare sharing any of it here.
Suffice to say it has my attention, and I know I need to get this all down one way or another.
It will be a temporary situation, even though it is a situation and does not have the characteristics of something that is just temporary.

Yet I know it will be solved.

And I know the topics on which I should be taking action, but keep postponing it.
And I even know it’s costing me money, yet none of these things have been able to motivate me.

Today progress was definitely made but the biggest breakthrough had nothing to do with the nuts and bolts, not with content, not with things that you can do, and actions that could go either right or wrong.

The biggest breakthrough, and I can’t believe it took me this long, because OF COURSE that was what I should have been working on-
Was that I didn’t have a system in place to hold this entire area of my life together.

And the reason I didn’t have a system is because I didn’t have a vision.

I had noticed the mess, and knew I was behind, but was consistently thinking about the whole area at Nike’s Let’s do it-level;
Execution.
When this is seldom, if ever, where things need to be fixed!

And it definitely wasn’t where I was going to find my solace, because I work singularly from vision.
Always.
I don’t care how small or insignificant the area of my life seems.

I am the opposite of Nike’s Just do it strategy.
A What’s the bigger picture here? person.

And even biggest picture. What’s the highest available vision I can have for this area of my life.
How does this area look if it reflects my values, my goals, and who I am?

How can I go from slacking, to not just functional, but excellence?

If you stay at the level of solving the problem, or getting the area to just good enough, it will remain a struggle indefinitely.
Take your eye off of it and whoopsie!
There it falls by the wayside again!

But a vision?
That is like the glue that holds things together, even when you don’t watch. You do not need to helicopter the areas or relationships, where you have a vision for.
They smoothly run on their own, until your next session with them, because they are rooted in a system, and the system came from you having a vision.

So what is the area where you have created a Magna Cum Laude Mess, that you don’t speak about?
And how would that area look if it was a straight A, ten out of ten, your biggest accomplishment, and everybody knew you had this nailed?

Forget execution and turn your biggest failure into your biggest dream.

decide the endgame

When time is running out and budgets are cut;
If turmoil rises on the horizon.

On the final day, when death has rung your doorbell and you know it won’t be long now.

How will you leave your mark?

There are few things that scare me more than the idea that in the final day of my life there will be something I do mindlessly.
Check news, which is no longer relevant.
A social media feed which only distracts me from my final hours in this 3D world and physical body.
Pulling away attention reserved for loved ones, should I be so lucky to have them.

And counting back from that moment, you get a ripple effect. A wider scope.

And after having started with your last moments, the center or core of the circle, you find yourself increasingly intolerant towards any of those things being there the final week.
Month.
Year.

Until you realize that something which is irrelevant in the final moments, probably doesn’t do a great job at making a positive contribution to your life now either.

And vice versa;
That if you would choose it then, you should make it a priority now as well.

Now there are exceptions of course – surviving in this world requires significant financial means, and losing those can get you in severe trouble.

Same goes for your health: If you don’t take care of your body the best you can, this also influences your life in terms of quality and length.
That too is a dance, just like leveraging your time and money.

But still I think coming at it from the perspective of you literal, personal endgame, how you want to spend the final day, gives you a better perspective than if you mindlessly react to everything on your path.
Knowing what ultimately matters and what doesn’t, makes the choice a better informed one.

But all this, is still what I would call our human, endgame.
If you have professional goals, then that is a separate topic to think about.
What is your professional endgame?

First start with after you die – is there a part that you want to live on?
If so, then how can it be preserved?
Do you need to make arrangements for it to be managed by someone else?
And if so what is needed to give it the right financial means or organizational or legal structure?

Then comes the final decade of your working life, which can be the actual final decade of your life, or maybe you want to retire and hand over the ownership of your legacy earlier.
Like a retirement.

But either way, how would you like your final working years to look like?
Are you a Picasso working until late in life?
And if so – then what is the work that is uniquely you?
You’re at Masterlevel now.
What is it, you have mastered?

The skills you see yourself growing into, and getting better at with age, should already have an important role in your life today.
In particular if it is an area where you still want to grow a lot in, and hope to master your craft at a level that is much higher than what you have today.

This vision for the final working years of your life, so that’s before you leave your legacy one way or another, should be KNOWN, to you.
You should have an understanding of what your endgame is.

definition of endgame Merriam-Webster:

the stage of a chess game after major reduction of forces
also : the final stage of some action or process

Having enough money to retire and do the things you didn’t have time for during your working life, is how we are taught to think about retirement.

But if you are an artist, a writer, a scientist, a philanthropist or anyone who has spent their life working on their vision;
You need something else.

A longterm plan about how your work will be passed on.
And what that means for today.

You need to start working on your endgame.
