A few weeks ago, I was on the verge of Googling what “Flirting in subtext” meant.
I suspected (and fervently hoped!) it was my natural flirting style, which was odd to say the least, because I did not even know what flirting in subtext meant!

I felt SEEN, by my own creative word play, and even if Google didn’t come up with anything I was still convinced there were more people with this flirting style.
The rare ones, who had flirted back….

But before I got around it, the answer unfolded naturally, from a conversation that initially appeared to be about an entirely unrelated topic.
Which was when I asked someone to help me untangle something about myself.

I asked them:
“I crave deep connection in friendships, but we rarely have what others would view as deep conversations.
How is that possible?
How can I crave depth, and apparently find it in fun and banter?”

And what we found is that what happens when people connect at their deepest levels, the communication channel itself is freed up.
And can now be used in whatever way the two of you fancy.
Which in my case, often means play.

A great performer, is someone who has mastered all the layers of their being.
They can speak without words, touch without using their hands and connect without even being in the same room.
They create a bond, that transcends time and space.

Naturally, the people who can pick up on that frequency, are excited!
Convinced that this is magic.
Because it is.

But it is the one who answers that call, on an energetic level, using their words for something else entirely;
Those, are the ones we remember.

It is then, that we feel seen.

For years, yes, actual years (I know you probably won’t believe me) I’ve struggled publishing a book that will be my magnum opus.
I did not write it under this name, so I probably should not even tell you this because it’s secretive, not transparent, and then the status of what you should be doing with this information becomes unclear as well.
The point, Rock Star.
The point!

You, reading advice from someone telling only half a story?
That’s the kind of messy not-fitted-for-your-brand randomness we’re craving to see from you.

As I was saying, for years now, I’m struggling with this book.
And it’s tempting to suggest it’s the psychological weight of it, because it’s about a man who broke up with me years ago.
But No!
I’m simply really bad at copy editing, and at getting big projects like this done.

I don’t have a mold for it, and it took me a decade after I started writing, before I had my first book in print.

And nothing changed as I’m still terribly slow and I have dropped this project so often I could cry if I think about all the lost time.
It’s probably even barricading my love life to have this unfinished manuscript blocking anything that wants to come in.

But want to know my biggest mistake?
This whole idea of copy-editing, this slow as a snail process I am making myself go through.

Embarrassed, every time I find errors.
And I find a lot.
And I find them again when after 3 years I look at the first chapter which has already been edited six times prior.

It’s like pulling teeth!!!

Because that creepy sketch you drew drunk in the middle of the night?

That photo you took, when your lens broke down because it had sand in it?

The diary with all the random entries?

your vision board speaks

From the thoughts endlessly mulled over and chewed on
To the unsatisfactory photo where the model didn’t have your hair color
And the random clippings that had a pleasant aesthetic and were (you were sure of this!) without meaning

Your inner-world craft a spell of them.

I saw it from the corner of my eye.

The laminated A4 had been used as the backcover to a binder I used to collect my most important blogs in.
Posts I did not want to forget.

Until there were so many of them that even the biggest ring I had for my binding machine, could no longer hold them.
I started a new volume and archived this one on the shelves next to my window.

And as I looked out the window contemplating what I would write today, I saw the old vision board.
Holding on to years of my most important blogs for me.
Which of course, I all forgot.

I took it off the shelves and my eyes went over the landscape A4 of the collage, and wondered what year it was from.
Because my dreams had always been the same.
My role models were unchanging, although every five to ten years or so a new one could be added.
The collage depicted both pictures of me as well as different female stars, all representing different areas of my life.
And pictures of male stars, sometimes together with a woman, representing the men in my life and then the woman represented me.

All of this was eternal.

Yet where I had tried to be specific in what I wanted, I had failed to achieve it.

On the inside of the back cover, so the back of the vision board, I had made a complementary blueprint of how to become that woman on the vision board.
It has blogs and channels and ideas on it, I dropped ages ago.

Signed on the day this quest would begin:
Independence Day 2021

As if my dreams required a battle plan in order to be conquered.

But on the front, every photo with every woman;
Still me.

the work is done for you

Whether you post every day or never, regardless of the type of art you make or “even” when you “just” do you and feel creatively aligned that way;
It’s all exactly as it should be.

It’s the story you are here to tell.

Over the past nine months I have witnessed my creativity shrink from doing whatever I wanted to being chained to a meticulously orchestrated content planner, making optimal use of my limited time.

Creativity had to give, because I needed more space for other things.
It was a long and strenuous process, but ultimately I hacked it.

And now that I have it all contained and timeboxed, I am surprised by how much I like it.
Unexpectedly, this planning has turned out to be a huge success.
It’s such a relief to no longer be writing by the seat of my pants.
This feels much more gentle and luxurious, like a spa.

But it does make me wonder, how is this possible?

How can someone who always allowed herself to spill the story the moment it was hot and needed to be told with urgency, how can I trade that for becoming the train conductor version, writing pieces scheduled days in advance;
And not miss any of it?

Am I even still an artist now that I run a content production line?

But the strange thing is, my videos and posts appear to have gotten better.
There is no loss of spontaneity or dullness or anything.

And I’m more consistent.
I’ve cherry picked the easiest pieces, and dropped all items that take 5 hours. Without knowing how to ever put them back into my schedule, so there was a price.

But overall, yeah!
Love it!

But then I realized that the reason I feel it’s “all” still there, is because the essence of our work and our message is never ours to begin with.
It is given.

What you call your work, is actually handed to you, by purpose, from calling,  or by some invisible Force.

Whether you have 8 hours or 2 to create a piece?
It is all the same to them.

bargain a better deal 

The danger is never in overpaying for things you really want;
It’s in giving your time, attention and emotional labor, where no agreement was ever made.

“Hell, it’s everywhere, isn’t it?!”
I have no idea if I have actually said this out loud, but I’ve thought it.

Because the bad news is that once you have transformed one area of your life, stripped down all layers of socially conditioned paint and veneer
– but not before testing it for lead!
Because you know very well the majority dates from before the 70s when they took this toxic ingredient out-
– the lead-reference serving not just as an instruction to refurbish your vintage furniture, but also a metaphor of the most toxic ingredients being taken out of social conditioning in the 70s-
– just saying!-
And you repair all the damaged wood, and pamper it with oil or wax and new coloring, and you’re just so proud when that whole area of your life is finally shining as a one of a kind original!

When?
Oh no….fuck…..
Yes, Rock Star.
A whole different area of your life falling apart.

With that little corner piece shining bold and bright, it is suddenly painfully obvious how bland, old, out-of-use and dangerously unattended to other parts of your life are.

Absolute relics, and from a life you cannot remember ever agreeing to.

Once you redo one area of your life, you will find all other areas are like brown, mid- 20th century furniture with lead paint and BROKEN LOCKS (this was again a metaphor), dusting away in your basement or shed.
Meaning taking up space in the margins of your life, where other people dumped them, or you took them on board without questioning.

And now they’re…..there.

Want to know who put them there?
Throw out those beliefs on who you owe whatever, or on what was right and wrong in 1953, and find out.

The ones who object to you throwing it out;
They, put them there.

(what if?) that is the actual work

Promoting, cleaning shit up, creating your look and getting ready every day.

The difficult conversations.
The fixing of unforeseen problems.
The setting of boundaries when you least expect it.
The nurturing of social structures surrounding whatever it is you do.

= your actual job

Years ago there was a meme trend for yoga teachers with “What people think I do” versus “What I actually do”.
I forgot what the specifics were, so I looked it up. What people think I do was actually specific to a person or a group.
So you’d have like “What my parents think I do” or “What my students think I do” or “What the New York Times thinks I do”.
The latter with a picture of inflexible people trying out poses way over their head, because we were in the aftermath of a critical article which, if I am not mistaken, was called “Yoga Wrecks Your Body”.

Yet although the interpretation of what it was the yoga teacher did varied, where the yoga teacher themselves was usually content with meditation sessions where they checked their watch all the time, doing long relaxation pose or a supported child’s pose (and nothing flashy);
At least everyone was on the same page.

Everybody thought a yoga teacher did yoga.

This is of course a very logical thought, because it is our most distinguishing feature.
However!
This does not mean that it (doing or teaching yoga) is what determines our professional success, or even what we are doing most of the worktime.

Mapping out our teaching schedule.
Promotion (creating content and being online).
Doing our own yoga.
Keeping our website updated.
Email correspondence.
Preparing classes.
Travel time.
Having social interactions before or after class.
Cleaning the studio time. *

My estimate is 25% actual teaching hours, 75% tasks as illustrated above.
But yoga teachers are not alone here;
This goes for so many types of work.

If you’re thinking about a career switch, or exploring new directions?
Look at that 75% of the not-doing-your-work, before making a decision!

The 25% of whether or not the real work is ideal, a true match, or if it is work which remotely appeals to you?
Irrelevant.
At least when it comes to making a non-passion based job decision.
You’ll manage, you’ll find a way.
Yet, if you are not the right person to rock that 75%?
Oh, that’s gonna be one hell of a painful work path.

So, nuff said about that scenario.
Because similarly to yoga teachers, we are usually not really thinking about a non-passion-based job right?!
We may have one, and it’s good to know this whole thing about the 75%, but where we wonder if we can do it…… wonder if we can “make” it?
That is our passion, our creativity, our calling, our purpose.
Like the yoga teacher, we already know what it is we want to do.

Work which has come through deeply felt passions, or through an unstoppable need to help out or to contribute.
It – THE Work, OUR Work, the area of interest or the places or people we just love to hang out with, the things we like to DO! – it all comes through us and out of us, and the only choice we have is how to navigate this force.

It’s those areas where we need to be strategic.
And it‘s here, the “75% rule” can help make a choice, or should at least be considered!

So let’s say, hobby scenario, right?
You have a passion, or feel a call to do something and contribute.
Choose a way to limit extra tasks! Instead of settling for the meager 25% spending the time on what you really like doing, try upping it to 50%, or a hundred!

For example, a lot of people do voluntary work because they like the social interaction. But if you do it in an area where you normally don’t reside, you’re not going to build your network in your own neighborhood, and you’re also going to invest hours in travel time.

So “even” when something is a hobby or unpaid, beware that you don’t pick up work that is not the aspect you like about the job.
That’s not your passion-based part.

But one way or another, hobby or leisure time activities usually have a way of sorting themselves out.
Even without knowing this.

However, the most difficult areas are when we work because we are passionate about a certain cause, or because we have a different sort of calling or interest in it, and yet?
Oh, we find ourselves resisting all kinds of little, annoying, administrative hurdles and returning tasks, that we feel we need to “get by” in order to get to the “real work”.

It’s in those moments, that this blogpost is your wakeup call.
Those smaller tasks?
That is the work.
And in many cases, if you’re a professional it’s how you deal with those aspects that make you stand out. They’re usually way, and I mean WAY, more important, than the direct quality of your “real” work.

In 1983 a then unknown Bon Jovi had their first big show. They were the support act for ZZ Top. A stroke of luck! Because their debut album had not even been released, and the night before the two shows they had actually played for 30 people in a club in New Jersey.
Jon had been so nervous for this small gig, he’d lost his voice and it took all he had to go up on stage.

Yet the next day in Madison Square Garden he played it like he owned the place. “I lived there, it’s no problem.”

Jon even had to improvise, because guitarist Richie Sambora’s amplifier had blown up at the first chord of this important show.
The guitarist still remembers: “It was like slow-motion: ‘Ohhh, no!'”
The crowd, whom had been polite at first, was starting to get rowdy, shouting “ZZ Top! ZZ Top!”.
Jon took off his guitar and threw it to Richie.
“It’s all on you, play the guitar!”

They went through a 30 minute set in 17 minutes, but they did it!

Even then you could see Jon Bon Jovi was more comfortable dealing with that “75%” often overlooked work necessary to perform in front of tens of thousands of people;
Than the skills required to entertain an unexpectedly intimate audience.

Which is in line with the fact that from the get go, he went for becoming a big rock n’ roll band, and did not even consider settling for the security of an income cover bands in New Jersey were close to being guaranteed at the time.
All or nothing.
“There was no Plan B,” he remembers.

So whether you are faced with technical problems on your first big break;
Or have stage fright when there are only a few people showing up.
Make sure you’re all geared up for the 75% of the work that people, parents and the New York Times, don’t realize you do.

‘Cause that?
Is your actual work.

I got on the Lion’s Gate wagon pretty late. 2020? 2021? And to this day I am on the fence about what I think about it.
Or maybe it is better to say that I instantly loved the idea of making the 8th of the 8th a special day, 8 being the number of power, money and success, but that my enthusiasm and intuitive attribution to what this mighty date was about, always preceded the official astrological interpretation.

So although I’ve seen videos, in the last couple of years, about its meaning, it never stuck as much as my intuitive feeling about it.

Technically I don’t even know if it is Lion’s Gate or Lion’s Portal or Lion’s Gate Portal?
And just like the details of its official meaning, I don’t really care.

But I will see what I can up in a few minutes about the meaning of Lion’s Gate.
Though I must warn you, that for me, what others said about it, has never really change nor particularly attributed, to my intuitive and stirring  understanding that the 8th of August, was a cosmic springboard.
An opportunity, not to be missed!

But I’ll see what the official version is.

The top results are from the Hindustan Times, and they point out that this year’s Lion’s Gate Portal (they too, use the three word name) is even more powerful than other years, because the numbers of the year, also add up to 8
2+0+2+4=8 

And it gives a great definition of what it is;

“The Lion’s Gate Portal physically occurs when the Sun in Leo aligns with the star Sirius, Orion’s belt, and the Earth.

This alignment happens during Leo season, from July 28 to August 12, but Lion’s Gate Portal peak time is on August 8, which is considered the most powerful day.”

I’ve had a mild Sirius obsession ever since I saw the series Ancient Apocalypse, pointing out how all the ancient sacred sites (which the creator of the series deems to be tens of thousands of years older than what archeologists claim they are) are built around Sirius.

And the Sirius obsession came on top of an already existing fascination with Orion, because Rutger Hauer’s Tears In The Rain monologue in sci-fi movie Blade Runner  (a 42 word speech that has its own Wiki page!) contains the words;

“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.”

Orion!

And my interest in Orion was intensified with something fascinating from the world of astronomy, which I learned just last year.
That there is a star, in the “shoulder of Orion” (just that location! the shoulder of Orion!) which is dying.

Anybody who knows anything about astronomy, which obviously excludes me, but they are all watching Orion for this star, which is dying.

“Betelgeuse is a red supergiant star in the constellation of Orion.
Betelgeuse has evolved rapidly because of its large mass, and is expected to end its evolution with a supernova explosion.

When Betelgeuse explodes, it will shine as bright as the half-Moon for more than three months; life on Earth will be unharmed.”

Naturally, now that I have learned Lion’s Gate isn’t mere a numeric oddity, but is linked to my favorite stars Sirius and Orion, I love it even more!

So back to the Hindustan Times;

They point out the symbolic meaning of the number 8, which is in line with the off-the-cuff definition I shared with you prior.
And they point out that the number 8, when on its side, is the symbol for infinity.

Lion’s Gate is the best day of the year (I’m paraphrasing, this is me, Suzanne, no longer the Hindustan Times!) to connect with your highest dreams.
To lock in the vision and to write them out or create a vision board or another visual or actionable reminder of where you want your life to go.

I haven’t checked but I promise you that if you go on YouTube and look for Lion’s Gate Portal and Manifestation – you will find a lot of inspiration.

Or you can just use the final paragraph of the article in the Hindustan Times.

Or maybe you’re just like me and you shouldn’t really spend too much time getting into the details.
You’re good to go, just knowing this day is special.

And that the door to your unlimited potential, is wide open.

And what are the areas you’re playing small, as if cut off from your powers?
We investigate if in those areas, the rules you play by are yours, or society’s.
“3” is related to sexual freedom.
Like anything, it is up to you if that is part of our conversation or not.

Because all three points are just a suggestion, they offer a good framework providing one hour for every topic, to go deeper looking for answers.
But the setlist is not fixed.

I have merely built the stage for us, and we have three hours.

It is up for you to take it.

look for the symbolism

The things you know you’ll one day be thinking, doing, owning;
The way you’ll be behaving and believing;
They’re more than a random collection.

But the blueprint of the person wanting to come out.

Every couple of weeks, and this can stretch up to two, three months, I don’t know I have never counted it, but quit frequently and consistently, there is a build-up in my house of overdue household work.
And I even came up with a classification system, a boundary which when crossed, describes that I really let livability fall by the wayside here.

It is the boundary when a living space becomes a saloon or a stall, because there is so much dirt that I brought inside the home, returning from my daily walks and from feeding the hedgehogs.
Any requests to drop by my house within hours, will be met with a firm No!
For multiple reasons, but it’s also because I know my house does not have the basics in place to welcome people in.
That I m at That Stage, again.

Naturally if I then finally clean up, usually because I have a guest coming over, I love it with all my heart and swear on all things holy I will keep it this way, from now on.
That I m never letting go of this Sanctuary Feel that my house now gives me!

Until I do of course.
And usually sooner rather than later.

It’s easier for me to commit to daily blogging, daily yoga, daily walks, and I have been consistent with the hedgehogs for years but a daily cleanup in order to keep the house livable?
Obviously my Achilles Heel.

Which wouldn’t be such a big deal, if the symbolism behind it wouldn’t be so disturbing.
Because it conveys lack of ownership.

I think what we are all secretly striving for, even from a consumer standpoint – and this is the exact reason why mindless consumption is so unsatisfactory-
What we crave for, what fills us up, and empowers us is;
Ownership.
But not ownership in the literal sense, as something that strictly speaking now falls under our jurisdiction.

If I buy a purse, I am now the owner of it.
But it will not be satisfying, unless I start cultivating an active relationship to the purse.

The reason my poor housekeeping skills are a problem is because they reveal that I am not actively engaging with my surroundings.
And the house-stall-crossover that is my hallway, is a symbol of that.

And trust me when I say that unfortunately the hallway is not the only, nor the most severe area of my life, where this problem exists!
There are multiple ones.

Multiple areas that symbolize a lack of ownership.
Not the literal, but the metaphorical ownership.
I’m not showing up, I’m not in an active relationship to them.

Beware also, if you ARE in an active relationship – but it is one of problems and complications!
No good can come from that either.
Find your peace within yourself, let go of ego, panic, anxiety and so on.
Cultivate a healthy relationship to the area within yourself, first. Don’t try “fixing” this highly volatile situation.
Practice equanimity first.

So there is more to say about this, more flavors than withdrawing, not showing up. But because not-showing-up is my coping style, and not conflict, I am more knowledgeable in that area.
Which is why it is dominant in this post.

But there is also good news.
Because I really believe that when we think about what we’d like in life, we’re making things way too complicated.
In the sense that we’re aiming for new things which require more time, more money (a bigger house, a new bag) or that are even beyond our direct circle of influence (more friends, a new partner, different colleagues).
The good news is it’s not about adding the new.

What we crave is to have a deeper, more fulfilling relationship with the bag we already own, with the house where we currently live, with the people in our lives already.

The areas in your life you do not feel good about, symbolize something, yes….  For example my dirty hall symbolizes an inability to take care of my home as a whole.
But their current state, also symbolizes something!
Chaos, lack or conflict.
Or in my case;
Neglect.

Instead of focusing on the tasks to clean the area up, or redesign it, ask yourself:

How can I make this area a symbol of * enter whatever it is you want * 

Peace.
Love.
Success.
Adventure.
Comfort.
Health.

Take a deep breath. See it for what it is, don’t move habitually, or emotionally. Take it in.

What does an area need, to be a symbol of your competence?

1. the earthly plane
Your possessions, worldly matters, income streams, worries and responsibilities you fear you can’t meet.
A helpful term could be how do things look from the perspective of financial freedom, or worldly freedom.

2. your purpose
What is the work you love doing, what are the moments big or small, that you know you are aligned. Has God told you, what you’re here for?
This is about creative freedom, or even karmic freedom.
Are you free to do the work, that is yours?

3. your Rock Star expansion
What is the fullest expression you are here to bring?
And what are the areas you’re playing small, as if cut off from your powers?
We investigate if in those areas, the rules you play by are yours, or society’s.
“3” is related to sexual freedom.
Like anything, it is up to you if that is part of our conversation or not.

Because all three points are just a suggestion, they offer a good framework providing one hour for every topic, to go deeper looking for answers.
But the setlist is not fixed.

I have merely built the stage for us, and we have three hours.

It is up for you to take it.

it’s time to get the basics in place

And I don’t mean kicking your own butt because if you have not been doing what you very well know you should be doing;
Deeper powers are at play.

Your willpower is there to move your fired up, ready to rock,  Self forward!

But your enemies, whether internal or external sabotage;
Require a battle plan.

I am not sure when I will break my silence about this, but probably sooner rather than later, I will tell you what happened.
What it was that has pulled the rug from underneath me, after a lifetime of peace, pleasure and privilege.
All of which were even more brittle and more special than I already, gratefully, acknowledged they had been.
I had never taken them for granted.

However it took until it all fell apart, both from parts of my life no longer functioning as well as an unnamed feeling of misery and despair, all accompanied by a steady stream of widely varying health complaints,  from which years of sleep deprivation must have been the most undermining one, that I realized my whole life prior to that?
Had been a blessing of the highest order.

I had done nothing.
And I had received, everything.
Until something stopped working, but it wasn’t visible on the outside.

Yet everything had changed.
I am no longer the person I used to be.
She’s gone.

Now, on the cusp of getting my health and myself back, I can reflect and let the lessons sink in, of which there are many.
But the most important one is;
Don’t force yourself into doing something. Not even into chasing your dreams. The only work that can be successfully, is the one flowing out of you.

Now, I am defining “work” in an unconventional way here!
I mean:
What you do with the hours you can choose.

There can be many reason why we force ourselves to do work that pays us, even when it comes at the expense of having to sacrifice many things that are important to us.
I am not saying that is healthy, but it is an entirely different conversation.

What I mean is this;
Do not, in the hours that you have to devote yourself to the things that matter, MAKE yourself chase your dreams.

Instead get into the full acknowledgement that you are not, and that if those are really your dreams?
Well;
Then something is very, very wrong.

Imagine that you’re head over heels in love with someone, and simultaneously it is a tremendously busy time at your job.
You STILL make time to connect with that special someone.
Hell or high water.

That’s how it is with you and your dreams, and you know that.
You are naturally inclined to chase them, just like you are magnetically drawn to people you are in love with.

When you are healthy, as I have been the majority of my life, being happy, energetic, excited and doing the work (and “chasing” the people!) you have a passion for, is abso-fuckin’-lutely effortless!!!!

It does not require:
Planning.
Journaling.
Vision boarding.
Therapy.
Coaching.
An expert.
Drugs.
Emotionally regulating yourself.

It does not even require chocolate, and that is saying something because practically all things require chocolate 😉

Chasing, living, building your life, when you’re feeling good, does not require ANYTHING!
And it gives you everything.

So if you are not doing that, stop beating yourself up over it. Immediately. Starting now.
And acknowledge that something has been undermining your “efforts” (which should not have been efforts), undermining your life.

You have, an enemy.

External or internally; Something or someone requires you to stand up for yourself.
Your existence is under threat, physically, financially, or emotionally.

After acknowledging your life is indeed at stake, your task is to come up with a plan on how you are going to tackle that.
What are your resources?
Who are your allies?
Who have fought the same war, and might be willing to be your advisor or spokesperson?
Come up, with a real battle plan.

Once that is in place, your final step is to decide on the timeslots you’re taking time off from thinking or fussing about it.
To win your time back.
Your mind, your thoughts.

Even if 99% of your life is unchanged;
That 1% that you can now see as separate, that one moment where you can just breath and be, with yourself.
That is you, getting your basics in place.

And then you can reconquer your life from there.
