It’s been over two years since I wrote those words.
And by now I can testify that sometimes dreams get stuck, are not what they seem, and it can be frustratingly hard to carve out the actual dream from the solid mass in which they’re hiding.

And also that not knowing where you are on the journey, can be a blessing.
The reason I could work in 2023, was because I felt so on track!

And yet, little remained of the things I started. 

You can be excited about being en route, when the ultimate destination, if you even want to call it that, ends up having very little to do with where you thought you were going.

And yet, had I not gone after my dreams in 2023, I would never have ended up where I am today.

Here’s what I learned:

The most important one is to “just” start; But to keep it small.
Avoid designing a long-term path, and instead focus on making small steps.

Every journey and project, even the failed ones (maybe especially those!) provides so much valuable information about yourself and about your dreams as well.
And about how to get there.

See your attempts at achieving your dreams simply as experiments, and not as a binary thing where it is good if “it worked”, and you failed if there are no results.

Every attempt provides you with information.

The second piece of advice is to let your path be rooted in something you love doing.

F.e. I love abstract thinking, writing and planning.

But yours could be being part of a community, sharing your dreams with a (business) partner, or connecting in other ways.

You may have to actively sculpt your path to include those elements.

But after 2 years and 4 months?
It’s all that remains.

“To be understood at an energetic level.”
My new wording of what it is I see myself doing, or growing into, does not exactly feel natural yet.
Maybe it never will, I don’t know.
But it does feel as true.

Because with the overload of information available, and our instincts to combat complex situations and problems with adaptable and agile solutions (or with equally complex structures) I foresee the end is either in sight, or already behind us.

There is only one place to return to, and this is our body.
Not the mind, so easily replicated by AI, but the body.

Have you realized how deprived we have become?
In our digital experience we use our eyes, then audio, but our tactile experience is limited to typing.

Just think about the rich experience of taking a music cassette out of the small case;
The touch of a crispy sleeve of a vinyl record;
Or the mechanical sounds of a VHS tape clicking into the player.

I even remember the smell from the music section in the library, because the plastic cover sleeves of the vinyl records had such a peculiar, delicious smell.

I know a building where a rubber wheelchair dorpel over the doorstep makes the whole hallway smell like the building of the primary school I went to, when I was very small.
It’s like a timeportal in scent.

We’re so deprived right now, we’ve lived in a sensatory desert the past decade.
I expect people will look back on the 2020’s and wonder if we didn’t realize our entire physical experience had been marginalized.
Where the richness of life has slipped through our fingers.

Right now, one road leads to us becoming bad robots.
The other to us embracing our physical Self.

And with that?
Our vibration.

I think what I had counted as a crisis of faith.

Because honestly, if you’d asked me a few hours ago, before I had a nap that lifted the grogginess, or at least softened its razor sharp edges of having less than 3 hours sleep;

If you’d asked me the future of this What Do Rock Stars Need To Hear Today – series;
The fate of my New Rock Star YouTube Channel;
And the fate of the Catacombe blog (tagline “become the Rock Star you were born to be“, which Chat GPT had made synonymous with my name even half a year ago already)

Then I would have told you, I was going to drop them all.
Poof, gone, sorry, can’t do.

Now three hours sleep does not even generate enough cognitive power to decide what to have for lunch;
Let alone what to do with what has felt as my life’s work, right from the first posts in 2022.

But I didn’t know that.
My brain wasn’t working.

All I knew, was that at least this disruptive sleepless night had given me one actionable decision:
Catacombe, was out.

It was not bringing me closer to my longterm goals and my workweek was spilling over heavily into the weekend.
Something had to give.
And it was not going to be my Dutch work (which I have been wanting to expand on for months)
It certainly wasn’t going to be my Bon Jovi-related work (which is at an incredibly meager once every two weeks)

No, clearly it was Catacombe had to go.

And if you’d asked me this morning, I would have told you.
Smooth and matter-of-factly.
Without making a big deal out of it, or anything.

Until I got some sleep and remembered when one cancels something that brings joy;
Clarity;
Empowerment.
A sense of ownership and direction.

And perhaps not just to me;
But to you.

You guessed it;
Never.

I’ve fallen head over “bootstrap” heels in love, repurposing these old posts. Which were the first of their kind, from a series (What Do Rock Stars Do Today) that ended up being my go-to format, committing to it indefinitely.

Today I also modified the Canva post, for the first time.
Adding the lesson onto it, something I did not do until now.

So today’s lesson is
“Act Ready”
And it’s definitely one I needed to hear as well.

Either these lessons from over two years back are universal, or I am such a slow and stubborn learner, that they are still relevant.

But the good news is;
I also learned good things can very well happen even when, technically, you are not ready.
Let me explain.

The readiness of your surroundings only matters as far as it is a reflection of blocking -or otherwise unhelpful- thought patterns.

In other words:
It is not your material world, nor the digital world for that matter.

For example always keeping your home clean, is not what brings you what you want: It is your (positive) conviction, that lies beneath it.
Your mental patterns.

There used to be a show, and I have never seen it, so it could be still on, but it was called:
Undercover Millionaire

Without a name, resources or a network, a millionaire would try to recreate their success, in a different location.
And nail it, while working themselves up from sleeping in their car, to earning their first million.

You know why?
Because in their head, they were still carrying the blueprint of success.

Our mind needs to be ready for what we want;
The rest will take care of itself.

It’s like a gate is slowly closing behind me, and I find myself in the process of looking back.
It is humbling to see how little I knew, in the times when I was doing great. And how much wisdom the past 8 years have brought, which were without a doubt the worst ever. 

They may not even be over, and I no longer need them to be.
To be okay with everything staying the way it is, it is the litmus test if my new philosophy, or mindset whatever you want to call it, is working.

As long as I am still dependent on external circumstances to change, then I am not done.

Any parts of the past 8 years which would still cause a meltdown if they happened again?
Aspects that need solving?
Urges that need satisfying?

Then they go on the (for now) imaginary To Do list, of things that need more time at the drawing board, or meditation cushion.
More deep conversations, more connection, more movement as well as more stillness.

Any part of the past 8 years that still stirs up emotions is a sign I have not been able to extract its lesson that will serve me forever.
Still not cracked its code.

And unless I do, that will always be a liability and I cannot have that.

The past 8 years have brought me a vision, of how I want my life to be;
My professional life, my private life, and even which (small) part of my work I want to curate, and leave behind.

But more than anything these years taught me that the gift is in knowing these things.
In having something to strive for.

Whether or not I achieve it needs be ingrained;
As entirely irrelevant..

As I just dug down for the second time, down the Instagram timeline where I posted the original version in 2023 –
two years of content flashed before my eyes.

It was a mindboggling trip down memory lane, where one would suffer too much from vertigo to take it in, just hopes it’s over soon, and then inadvertently opens their eyes to slow down and starts taking it in regardless.

Soon realizing that what is unfolding as two years of content history will be a particular brand of Incredibly Unhelpful.

It was like that moment when I realized virtually none of the people who were in my life an X amount of years ago, are still in my life.
And had to try very hard to not consider the entire connection as having been fake to begin with.

Because if a connection can fall apart, was it ever real?

So far everything in me screams No, but I’m just going to ignore that.
I just can’t live in a world where connections are not real.

Call me a romantic, but I have to keep believing that somehow they are.
Or will be.
That life will be different.
And that an X amount of years from now, everyone who is here now, will be here still.

In much the same manner, I now have to believe that although the glimpse of Timeline Past proves I have ended almost all series I ran in the previous years, and shifted my online work dramatically;
That the things I now post, are forever.

I have cut back on what I write considerably, and think I’m right.
This really is my core work, and it will stay this way.

But more than minimalist logic and romanticism, it is alchemy;
We create the new from the ashes of the old.

Friendships, businesses;
And legacies.

From the moment I started following Online Marketing, I was immediately hooked.
It’s difficult to estimate when I came on board, because my memories are a bit blurry.

I would swear I was still in my 2008 home when I discussed my first online business coach, yet my email box does not come up with any results on her name, before 2014.
Which was the year I discovered multiple ones, leaving me both entirely overwhelmed and euphoric.

But also puzzled, because how was this possible?

Every female business coach online provided nothing less than mesmerizing, earth-shaking, life-changing programs that elevated both working as an independent, as well as elevate your whole entire life to mesmerizing rock star heights;
Then how did I miss this?

And how come no one in the Netherlands talked about this?
Even though I had graduated on marketing and had been familiar with Multi-level marketing organizations without even knowing the word MLM.
That’s how new they had been at the time, and yet I HAD KNOWN them!

But this new wave of female business coaches, learning us how to run a business and to sell our services;
They were using the same words (marketing, small business, selling) yet I could immediately tell it was nothing I had ever encountered.

And how they had managed to make marketing in college so boring, when it was clearly anything but?

Q: Why had I missed the immense power in having your own business?

A: Because it has little to do with the actual running of the biz.

And absolutely everything;
With being the trailblazing Rock Star you came here to be.
