There is only one photo of Marilyn Monroe in the Canva database, which I use to create pictures to go with my blogpost.
There are zero results for the search Andy Warhol. Or there are, but none of them are either Andy Warhol nor of his art.
There are no paintings when I search Canva for Post-modernism, the name of the movement Warhol’s work is categorized under.
All Postmodern results are architecture, and these photos are not in the top 3.
The search engine is more eager to connect Postmodernism to a woman making a photo of a heart-foamed cappuccino with her phone;
A cork board with an empty snippet of paper pinned to it;
And a square garden light next to a path, in the evening.
But inadvertently, these poor search results might have proven Postmodernism’s point.
“Postmodernism […] emerged in the mid-20th century as a skeptical response to modernism, emphasizing the instability of meaning, rejection of universal truths, and critique of grand narratives.”
“In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes”, Andy Warhol predicted in 1968.
Similarly, Postmodernism foreshadowed that everything is, or at least could be, art.
Until it’s 2026 and with the lines around what art is being blurred to the point of being invisible, the only definition standing is that apparently “real” art is not in the Canva database.
Real art, is protected.
In the 80s a Dutch museum wanted to make an exhibition about modern art.
In order to choose from the overwhelming number of options, they came up with rigid specifics on what was art.
In a merciless selection, they decided if the work met these criteria of what real art actually was.
If it did, it was immediately rejected.

about this series
That ONE Book is the book I always think I own, until I realize it has not been written yet. So in December 2025 I started writing it myself.
I’m going for writing 365 chapters over the course of 9 years, and then bring it to print.
