    With another episode of a Rock Star Take On.
    And this time the topic is SPIRITUALITY.
    And I managed to do what I always say I’ll do (but rarely ever do):
    I did not prepare.

    These videos (ideally) have two characteristics:
    – videos are under 10 minutes
    – and I go in without preparation

    And I have no idea what I’m going to talk about, so let’s see how this no preparation pans out!

    I am a Yoga Teacher, or at least I used to be one, and I still make yoga videos for YouTube

    And there I was reminded of how consciousness and the body are one, and influence each other.

    If you want (your body) to live long and healthily, the body should be included into your spiritual practice.
    The best spirituality for Earthlings, includes the body as part of the spiritual practice.
    But start with the part of spirituality that appeals to you, and then start integrating other parts from there.
    (body, mind, meditation, myth, journaling: I’m not very specific in the video – but start with whatever appeals to you, holds up)

    3. Rock Star Power 06:31
    The energy we associate with true Rock Stars, is an example of integrated spirituality.
    They are so magnetic because they have brought their consciousness into the body.

    In order to maintain this integration, the Rock Star needs to look after the two elements of mind and body.
    They both need to be trained.

    It’s like a gate is slowly closing behind me, and I find myself in the process of looking back.
    It is humbling to see how little I knew, in the times when I was doing great. And how much wisdom the past 8 years have brought, which were without a doubt the worst ever. 

    They may not even be over, and I no longer need them to be.
    To be okay with everything staying the way it is, it is the litmus test if my new philosophy, or mindset whatever you want to call it, is working.

    As long as I am still dependent on external circumstances to change, then I am not done.

    Any parts of the past 8 years which would still cause a meltdown if they happened again?
    Aspects that need solving?
    Urges that need satisfying?

    Then they go on the (for now) imaginary To Do list, of things that need more time at the drawing board, or meditation cushion.
    More deep conversations, more connection, more movement as well as more stillness.

    Any part of the past 8 years that still stirs up emotions is a sign I have not been able to extract its lesson that will serve me forever.
    Still not cracked its code.

    And unless I do, that will always be a liability and I cannot have that.

    The past 8 years have brought me a vision, of how I want my life to be;
    My professional life, my private life, and even which (small) part of my work I want to curate, and leave behind.

    But more than anything these years taught me that the gift is in knowing these things.
    In having something to strive for.

    Whether or not I achieve it needs be ingrained;
    As entirely irrelevant..

    The obvious, the expected and the so called normal are an outright violation of what you are here to do.

    As I just dug down for the second time, down the Instagram timeline where I posted the original version in 2023 –
    two years of content flashed before my eyes.

    It was a mindboggling trip down memory lane, where one would suffer too much from vertigo to take it in, just hopes it’s over soon, and then inadvertently opens their eyes to slow down and starts taking it in regardless.

    Soon realizing that what is unfolding as two years of content history will be a particular brand of Incredibly Unhelpful.

    It was like that moment when I realized virtually none of the people who were in my life an X amount of years ago, are still in my life.
    And had to try very hard to not consider the entire connection as having been fake to begin with.

    Because if a connection can fall apart, was it ever real?

    So far everything in me screams No, but I’m just going to ignore that.
    I just can’t live in a world where connections are not real.

    Call me a romantic, but I have to keep believing that somehow they are.
    Or will be.
    That life will be different.
    And that an X amount of years from now, everyone who is here now, will be here still.

    In much the same manner, I now have to believe that although the glimpse of Timeline Past proves I have ended almost all series I ran in the previous years, and shifted my online work dramatically;
    That the things I now post, are forever.

    I have cut back on what I write considerably, and think I’m right.
    This really is my core work, and it will stay this way.

    But more than minimalist logic and romanticism, it is alchemy;
    We create the new from the ashes of the old.

    Friendships, businesses;
    And legacies.

    From the moment I started following Online Marketing, I was immediately hooked.
    It’s difficult to estimate when I came on board, because my memories are a bit blurry.

    I would swear I was still in my 2008 home when I discussed my first online business coach, yet my email box does not come up with any results on her name, before 2014.
    Which was the year I discovered multiple ones, leaving me both entirely overwhelmed and euphoric.

    But also puzzled, because how was this possible?

    Every female business coach online provided nothing less than mesmerizing, earth-shaking, life-changing programs that elevated both working as an independent, as well as elevate your whole entire life to mesmerizing rock star heights;
    Then how did I miss this?

    And how come no one in the Netherlands talked about this?
    Even though I had graduated on marketing and had been familiar with Multi-level marketing organizations without even knowing the word MLM.
    That’s how new they had been at the time, and yet I HAD KNOWN them!

    But this new wave of female business coaches, learning us how to run a business and to sell our services;
    They were using the same words (marketing, small business, selling) yet I could immediately tell it was nothing I had ever encountered.

    And how they had managed to make marketing in college so boring, when it was clearly anything but?

    Q: Why had I missed the immense power in having your own business?

    A: Because it has little to do with the actual running of the biz.

    And absolutely everything;
    With being the trailblazing Rock Star you came here to be.

  • stop trying | What Do Rock Stars Need To Hear Today

    And not in the Yoda slash just-do-it way of getting into action and skip the hovering and apologetic overthinking like you’re not sure if you can do it.

    But the full renouncement of success.

    For a short, but for many of us an incredibly formative, period of about 5 years, from 1991 to 1995, 
    – or perhaps 1996, I have not yet received The Nineties: A Book by Chuck Klosterman (2022), and am retelling this story from what I picked up from half a dozen interviews I binge watched, which he gave from his gorgeous 70s inspired-room which all interviewers so far have deemed too unimportant to ask him about –
    But for that incredibly brief and definitely forgotten period of time, a peculiar mindset had spread throughout the 20s demographic;
    The rejection of commercialism, but this extended into the entire dismissal of success. 

    Success was synonymous with being a sell-out, where sell-out stood both for having been inauthentic and out of integrity on your path towards it, two characteristics which were identity suicide back then;
    But sell-out also covered the broader idea of being out of integrity BECAUSE you were commercially successful.

    The very fact that you had success proved you were a sell-out.

    Everybody adopting this mindset, acquired a lifelong disadvantage building a career.
    Success was a bad thing.

    It explains the intensity of successful grunge bands at the time, who experienced the tension between their values and their reality of being the leading genre.

    But even if you were aspiring, trying or in any way looking for outside validation, you were immediately thrown of the coolness-wagon.

    30 Years later  – and we forgot this.
    But at the time the philosophy was so deeply engrained into our minds, not even a can of soda could be sold without understanding this nihilistic set of 90s values.

    Also 30 Years later-
    And no one, forgot grunge.

  • 2020 Broke *cross out* built me | Share Your Work 2025 10 06

    Someone told me it would be a year of great disruption and unrest. She said it with a sense of acceptance and inevitability.

    It was the first of January 2020, and I had never met her before. Naturally I completely ignored the forecast yet within months we could all see she had been right.
    The prophecy, was true.

    A few months ago, we met again. Just like in the café she was the one initiating the conversation.
    I tried to figure out how we had met before, but neither one of us had any information that could help me fill in the blanks.
    And she didn’t seem to recall meeting me at all.
    But afterwards, I knew it.
    It had been her, the one with the gift of foresight.

    Knowing I saw her again initially brought me a sense of closure. A feeling I have been actively looking for, ever since 2022. 
    For the longest time, I’ve been wanting to leave everything behind me. For everything to return to normal, because this is not Me.
    This is not my life, and it never has been.

    The breakdown started years prior to 2020. Just that I thought I could turn it around, and in particular at the start of 2020 I felt incredibly optimistic! 
    But before the end of the year I had stopped teaching yoga and the only thing I thought about was why everything felt so horrible.

    So horribly alone.

    Fast forward Fall 2025, and here I am remembering I met this woman, twice. And connecting it to a decision I made, just last week. A decision that has been a long time in the making;
    This is my new life and I have finally, stopped wishing for a new one.

    Which does not mean I don’t have goals and dreams, and that I don’t look forward to the rest of my life.
    I do! 

    But I’ve stopped wishing for the feeling of belonging – which I miraculously had all my life regardless of its phase – to ever return.

    Like all of us who have have lived in isolation, whether chosen as a spiritual practice or otherwise, there comes a point where we are no longer the person who we once were.
    The change is now permanent.

    Just that I never saw it coming.

  • they all fall down | What Do Rock Stars Need To Hear Today

    they all fall down

    Everyone who ever taught you, in whose footsteps you could follow, or who inspired you by sharing their life’s story.

    The only place their wisdom survives, might be you.

    —

    I have lost many teachers, but never to death. I have lost sanctuaries, but never to fire. And I’ve seen rise what was destroyed, simply because someone carried it in their heart, and buried the seed some place else, watered it, and let it grow into a new tree.

    I can even remember the first divorce from a wedding I attended when I was only a few years old.
    It was the first time I understood that nothing is forever. Not even (or perhaps in particular not?) when we believe it to be.

    But you never grow accustomed to it, not even to the endings that were not dramatic, spectacular or overly sad.
    Even when you were very aware of their flaws. Again; Maybe especially then.
    To have conflict or tension unresolved, or unexpressed.

    But what I have also noticed is excitement, like the experience has now become totally mine.
    I no longer have to memorize the events the way other people do, and can flip it upside down, inside out and paste it together backwards.

    Religions, organizations, institutions, study groups, entire lineages or bodies of work;
    Abandoned, sometimes left to die.

    Because someone died or because everyone just turned their back on it.

    It’s not about legality, or taking something that isn’t yours;
    It’s about this knowledge no longer having a body to live.

    Because the person or organization who embodied them, is gone.

    This course you took, that book you purchased and that playlist you created on YouTube which now turns up grey because the channel was deleted;
    You are now the one to carry this knowledge forward. Not by copying but by planting the seeds of the idea of it, into the fertile soil of everything you learned over the years;
    And letting it grow.

    Not as an invitation, but a responsibility.

    My No-Television-Nor-Streaming is not half as clean as it looks!
    There is a form of questionable-quality content, I have now consumed an estimate of 1500 pieces of….

    3. And the top trait of Sigma females is?! 03:07
    They does not take into account social expectations!
    And I watched 1500 of these video’s and it’s one of her hallmarks.

    You know why?
    Because defying social expectations will give you an entirely new identity.

    4. Social Programming 03:55
    Social expectations have a tremendous impact on our decision making.
    We are conditioned to take into account all kinds of unspoken rules.
    This tool of expectations belongs to patriarchy and capitalism.
    It needs us to repress one another, with expectations.

    5. Rock Star take on expectations 05:48
    Just like the Sigma female, defying expectations is one of the main traits, of a Rock Star.
    Any successful Rock Star has started with push through society’s resistance, usually when they are a teen.
    The Rock Star is defined, by the fact that they have fought this battle.

    However, where the social surroundings of men usually come around and start supporting him in his pursuits;
    The pushback for women who adopt Rock Star identities, is more violent, and a lifelong battle.

    A Rock Star recognizes expectations as someone taking something away from you, without negotiating it.
    Someone holding expectations over you, means they are attempting to overpower you.
    Making fighting them a matter of principle, regardless of the content.

    what you can’t live without

    If you wouldn’t bother to drag it away from the gates of hell, and sigh at the first sign of adversity.
    If anything extra is too much for what you’ve budgeted this would cost

    Burn it.

    The movie Once Upon A Time In Mexico (2003) contains a striking goth image:
    Johnny Depp’s character, stark black outfits and long dark hair, is wearing sunglasses to cover his missing eyes.

    Streams of thick dark red blood have dripped from his eye sockets.
    Painting both undereye areas a ghastly red.

    Yet, he does not give up (his malicious ways).
    Even having lost his eyes, he will not be defeated.

    Admirable.
    However, we must take one thing into consideration:
    He only has his work to focus on, whereas we probably also have a house to take care of, and maybe friends, family, circles of people we regularly see, and so on and so forth.

    We do not have just one job, we’d lose our eyes for and still keep going.
    And that, makes it complicated.

    Even in Romeo and Juliet-like tales, where the main characters center their life around romance, ignoring the social code;
    The war it causes illustrates this immediately has consequences.

    The truth is, it doesn’t really matter what you center your life around;
    Career, romance, running, your health, activism or (my suggestion) your creativity;
    It always, comes at a cost.

    Life has been designed in a way that allows only for shallow, on-the-fly constantly interrupted interactions, that would not even have counted as connection, a few decades ago.

    If you want anything of meaning, you’re going to have to create it yourself.

    The more junk-interactions you have, particularly online, consuming rather than creating or connecting;
    The less value all those interactions have.

    And the happier the big tech companies are, to whom you’re feeding your entire consciousness.
    Instead of to doing things that matter.

    Value is only in the things you’d lose your eyes for.

  • Art that requires curtains | Share Your Work 2025 09 22

    In the 80s and 90s there was a small Dutch museum that unexpectedly became a mayor player in the art world:
    Groningen.

    They had installed a director who would bring the museum world fame;
    Its most talked about expositions;
    A new building with spectacular modern architecture built in the middle of a canal;
    And more financial mayhem and legal pushbacks any of the city’s officials were accustomed to receiving.

    One of the expositions contained so many sexually explicit photos, that it shook whomever heard about it to their core.
    And this time, the controversy – the very thought these photos would be in a public space where every innocent museum visitor would be confronted with them – reached unprecedented heights.
    Something had to be done.

    So they decided to have the most hardcore work all in one central space, and the other works would be shown in the adjacent spaces, I would guess ten of them, all spaces which were connected to one another.
    Like one large horseshoe shaped corridor, around one “red hot center”. 

    The entry points to the center were closed by huge black curtains, and guarded by attendants who would inform you of its shocking content, beforehand.

    The space itself, in the belly of the building was huge!
    But it was hot and reeked of the sweat of too many visitors and a ventilation system that was not up for the job.

    It was in this space, where our sexual repertoires were expanded.
    The anticipation had only made us more susceptible to take it all in, without judgement.

    And the media storm subsided.
    Until an incident happened no one had anticipated:
    A mother breast fed her child at the café of the museum, and she was told that was not appropriate.
    While within that very same building, giant depictions of humankind’s most deviant sexual acts were pinned to the walls.

    The lessons:
    One, objectification and sexualization of women is problematic.
    Two, we measure art with different standards.

    And three, when that one enfant terrible offers to make you a star?
    They could be telling the truth.
